Chapter 1

Asgard, 2011

"Liv, my dear, are you ready?" inquires my grandmother, walking into my chambers. I slightly nod as my maid braids the remaining of my hair. Once she's finished, I get up from my seat and twirl, waiting for my grandmother's approval. She smiles kindly:

"Magnificent," she acquiesces to my maid, "you did an impressive work!"

"Thank you, my Queen," she replies, curtsying, before exiting the room.

"I wish your mother could see you. She would be so proud and so will be your father when he sees you," affirms my grandmother.

Hearing her say this warms my heart. As my mother passed away a few weeks after my birth, I never had the chance to get to know her, and my father rarely talks about her. Frigga has been endorsing my mother's role ever since, helping my father raise me. In doing so, they both also helped me learn to control the powers I inherited at birth and taught me some more.

"Come, child, your father is waiting for us," she says, graciously walking towards the Throne Room where my uncle's coronation will take place.

We find my father waiting for us in front of the sumptuous golden doors. He smiles approvingly when he sees me before asking mockingly:

"So, princess, are you ready to see your uncle steal the throne from us?"

I laugh as my grandmother reprimands my father:

"Loki, do not say such absurdities!"

"Do not fret, Mother, you know I am only teasing," he answers, winking at me.

I smile while the guards open the doors for us to walk inside. The people of Asgard greatly acclaim our presence as we make our way to Odin, already sitting on his throne, his two ravens, Munin and Hugin, by his side. The Warriors Three are already standing on Odin's left and we join Lady Sif on his right. A few minutes later, Thor arrives and the crowd cheers loudly for their favorite warrior. He makes his way to the throne, and if I am being honest, he is a bit vainglorious. I have always found my uncle to be quite careless and arrogant, but it's really none of my business. As I exchange an exasperated look with my father, I cannot help but wonder why Odin did not crown Loki king instead. Before I can think this through any further, the coronation begins. Thor kneels in front of Odin, putting his hammer on the floor before taking off his helmet and putting it next to Mjolnir. He winks arrogantly at his mother as Odin stands up. The king thuds the floor with his spear and the crowd falls silent. Odin begins:

"Thor Odinson, my heir, my firstborn. So long entrusted with the mighty hammer Mjolnir, forged in the heart of a dying star, its power has no equal, as a weapon to destroy or as a tool to build. 'Tis a fit companion for a king. I have defended Asgard and the lives of the innocent across the Nine Realms from the time of the great beginning. Though the day has come..."

I stop listening for a few minutes as I observe the Asgardians in the crowd. I don't understand why they are so happy about Thor becoming their king; he is thoughtless. He seeks war and is only interested in proving he is the mightiest warrior of them all. I must have made it obvious that I was not paying attention anymore, since my father discreetly taps my arm. I turn my attention back to Odin, who is still rambling about that hammer. He eventually asks Thor:

"Do you swear to guard the Nine Realms?"

"I swear," he replies with confidence.

"And do you swear to preserve the peace?" continues Odin.

"I swear," he promises, smirking.

"Do you swear to cast aside all selfish ambition and to pledge yourself only to the good of the Realms?"

"I swear!" Thor yells, proudly, raising his stupid hammer in the air.

"Then, on this day, I, Odin Allfather, proclaim you –," Odin stops and looks to the horizon before saying severely, "the Frost Giants."

He thuds the ground with his spear again as the panic erupts amongst the crowd. Odin rapidly asks Thor and my father to follow him to the vault and as Lady Sif and the Warriors Three take charge of controlling the crowd, Frigga and I are escorted back to my chambers by guards. We stay in, anxiously waiting, until my father finally walks in.

"Everything is fine, the Destroyer killed the Frost Giants. There were only a few of them, and the Allfather is taking care of it."

"How is Thor?" Frigga questions, worried.

"You know him, he is angry and ready to fight back," my father replies, sarcastically, before adding, "I am going to go talk to him, I just wanted to let you know that everything is under control."

We both nod, thanking him, and he exits my chambers. My grandmother leaves soon after, telling me that she is going to go see Odin. I sit on my bed and read for a few hours before my father comes back, knocking on my door.

"Come in," I say.

"Dinner is served, Frigga awaits you," he declares.

"Are you not eating with us?"

"Sadly not. Thor is about to do something stupid, and I am joining him to control for collateral damages," he replies, rolling his eyes.

"Can I accompany you?" I ask, hopeful that this time, he will let me come.

He starts laughing hysterically, before teleporting himself out of my room. Well, I am guessing this means no.
