History: The Academy of Broom Flying, located in London, was founded in 1953 by a former professional Quidditch player named Silas Mugg. While not a huge star (he was a reserve Chaser for many years), Mugg's career was a long one. Over the course of twenty-two years, Mugg realised that certain players had moved that they favoured in certain circumstances which made them somewhat predictable. Watch a given player long enough, Mugg reasoned, and you would be able to find ways to outsmart them. So, when he retired, he founded the Academy of Broom Flying originally to help Quidditch players learn new tactics to make them less predictable. Since then, the academy also teaches the basics or re-teaches them in new ways. They also help adults who might feel incompetent or fearful of flying to become more confident.

Curriculum: Students as young as five or six years of age can enrol in courses that last anywhere from two weeks to six months. The courses for children are structured like a summer camp that a Muggle child might attend, but instead of horseback riding and swimming, kids learn flying-on-broom skills. Some wizarding parents do prefer that their young children at least know the basics of flying. And if a child is interested in Quidditch, they might want to learn to fly and be like their favourite Quidditch players. Another service that the academy provides is helping those who are older or in declining physical health find ways to continue flying, whether it be a special broom with a seat or a personalized grip on the handle or a broom enchanted to help the flyer remain balanced. The Academy of Broom Flying also offers more advanced courses and these are the ones that last for several months. Some of these more advanced techniques that are taught include things like stunt flying and technical manoeuvres like those often done by Quidditch players. Many Quidditch players utilize these advanced classes in order to keep up their technique and sometimes even learn something new.
