Keefe sat on his bed, replaying the events of the day.

His mind watched again, as Sophie made her way towards him on the playground, the chestnut of her eyes reflecting the sunlight.

The gold flecks sparkled as her loose hair bounced up and down.

Again and again, his mind replayed the memory like it was a movie being played inside his head.

Then he heard her soft, sweet, beautiful voice.

Oh please! The Sophie in his brain said.

Still replaying the look in her eyes and the sweet voice, his brain said something.

Something Keefe didn't want to accept. Even if he had to live with it in the back of his brain tucked beneath anything and everything that could keep it away.

You love Sophie Foster

At that he jolted upward. He tried to push it to the back of his mind. Those words kept resurfacing.

You love Sophie Foster

You LOVE Sophie Foster

YOU LOVE SOPHIE FOSTER

YOU LOVE SOPHIE FOSTER!

They were getting louder and louder in his brain. Pulling at each and every memory of her.

Anything that reminded him of her, or anything that she had done.

He couldn't do it.

He couldn't live with that thought.

He knew she didn't love him that way.

The way she looked at Fitz.

The way he felt her heart race whenever she stole a glance at Fitz.

Perfect Fitz.

Pretty perfect Fitz.

Fitz was his best friend. He really was a great person. He was the only person who had loved him for him.

But now... Keefe was feeling jealousy rise in his heart.

He wouldn't let it take over.

He couldn't.

He knew that he and Fitz's relationship had been teetering on the edge of a cliff. He had tried to fix the relationship.

But now that Sophie had come along.

And now that Keefe knew Sophie loved Fitz.

NO!

He kept pushing the thought away. Burying it deep in the folds of his brain.

He stood up.

His brain wanted to run as fast as he could towards Sophie and drag her away with him where they could live alone.

With no one to steal Sophie's heart.

He didn't know what to do.

He couldn't just tell her.

After the way she looked at Fitz.

Yep, there was no chance for him. No chance at all, he told himself.

His heart raced as he thought again of the sparkle in her eyes.
