Five

Ang pangako kong limang beses lang na pagsunod kay Ravenzon ay nasundan ng nasundan, hanggang sa inabot na ako ng mga buwan sa ginagawa ko at sa lahat ng pagkakataong iyon, wala siyang tinanggap ni isa man lang sa lunch box na hinahanda ko.

Since I already lives alone, I can't just tell to our house chef to made a lunch box for me every single day and deliver it on my condo. Ayokong gawin 'yun kaya araw araw akong bumibili ng dessert or fruits para kay Ravenzon na hindi niya naman tinatanggap. Hindi ko alam sa sarili ko kung bakit sa kabila ng lamig ng pakikitungo niya sa akin ay patuloy ko pa rin siyang nilalapitan.

"Hi! I packed different kinds of berries for you–"

"I hate berries." He replied coldly before turning away from me.

But I just saw him eating the berries on Tatiana's lunch yesterday.

Binaba ko ang kamay ko at ngumiti sa mga estudyanteng nakatingin sa akin. Pinilit kong gawing kaswal ang ekspresyon ko kahit na kung ano anong salita na ang naririnig ko sa likod ko.

"She looks so desperate."

"Naaawa ako sa kanya."

"Pity. She must adore Enzo so much to the point that she lost her class."

"She looks like a puppy begging and snuggling to her owner."

I swallow the lump on my throat and smile like it didn't hurt. Kahit sa totoo lang tinatanong ko na din ang sarili ko.

Why am I so desperate?

I remember the conversation I had with my mother one night. Ang naging dahilan ko para maging desperada ng ganito.

"The board was accusing your father from stealing the half of the fund for the upcoming project of our company."

"What?! Dad wouldn't do that!"

"I know, sweetheart, but they found evidence. Your Dad deposited a huge amount of money to your inheritance account."

Bumagsak ang panga ko doon. Dad did what? He deposited a huge amount of money in my inheritance account? Bakit niya gagawin 'yon? That account has my grandparents inheritance for me and he didn't need to add more money on it!

"Bakit gagawin ni Dad 'yon, Mom? My inheritance doesn't need more! Mapapahamak si Daddy!"

"That's what I've been trying to say to him but he wouldn't bulge. I asked him for his reason but he wouldn't tell me either! He's staying inside the study room more now and he's always busy!"

I bit my lower lip and held my forehead. Sumasakit ang ulo ko.

"Where is Dad now?"

"Attending conference in Japan."

I sighed. "Don't worry, Mom. I'll talk to him about all of this."

But the talk didn't work. Hindi ko maintindihan pero naging sarado ang isip ni Daddy sa mga sinasabi namin. He's moving independently, unlike before where he would always tell us what's on his mind.

"The only way your Dad would be save from all of these accusations is your engagement to Ravenzon Calter. If that happens, they will side with us. If we will combine our shares with them, we will have the majority shares. That means they can't touch your Dad anymore, unless he commit something inhumane."

That's why I'm this desperate. I will do anything for my family. I will do everything for my Dad.
