𝐍𝐎 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐒𝐀𝐘 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐘 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐂𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄. It was just a universal truth: the sky was blue, the grass was green, and everyone in the known universe had a predestined partner they were fated to spend (at least) part of their life with. All one had to do was follow the signs to find their other half.

The first was a blemish — a brand partners shared; a puzzle piece fixing fragments into a whole. Most had one, some had more, but they were always visible upon birth. No matter the age, sex, gender, or ethnicity of one's unknown partner, the mark was there. It was a symbol hope and salvation; a reminder that no one was truly alone.

Sensitivities came next, appearing on their own at the age of sixteen. Much like soulmates in general, none knew why sixteen was the chosen year, only that every sixteen-year-old gained new senses on their birthday — senses their destined lovers developed as well. With marks being puzzle pieces seeking a match, sensitivities were more like a tether; a figurative red string tying individuals together whether they liked it or not.

Lastly, there was the burn. It wasn't incapacitating (or so people claimed), but rather a light itch — a gentle throb — within the mark that let one know their forever-love was nearby. Once felt, a soulmate would be easier to spot and thus eternity with one's other half could begin.

On their own, each sign could be considered useless. With billions of people on Earth alone, finding someone else by blemish was a near-impossible feat. Sensitivities were just as hard to navigate, though could give one little clues depending on the sense. Perhaps the mark's burn was the only one that could really work on its own, but even that was severely weakened without the help of the others.

In a way, the signs were their own little map directing lovers to each other; a guiding light for those in most need of the grounding only a soulmate could provide. Together, they fulfilled destiny's plan — and they were (widely) loved for it.
