“I’ll be gone for a while tonight, okay?” You said, more of an announcement than a question.

“No!” Niall interjected from the corner of your room. Your room was the only one in the house that had a TV besides the family room, so he was always there.

“Um…why?” You snapped.

“Because! You’re always gone!” He gave you a disappointed face.

“And you care….because…” Niall was always trying to be the better one. He always told you what to do, and he took absolutely every precaution with you. He was your older brother, and you hated that. Not that you hated Niall, you just hated how overprotective he is. You were definitely old enough to make our own choices, and you didn’t need him there all the time to do it for you.

“Because you’re just always gone. Stay home for a few seconds, will ya?” He scoffed.

“No! You’re so mean, why would I want to be around you?” You argued.

“Because you love me and I know what’s best for you,” He said smiling.

“I’ll see you later, Niall,” You said, ignoring him.

“Where are you going?” He demanded, marching off after you.

“It’s a great place called NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!” You screamed at him.

“Just tell me, (Y/N), or I’ll follow you all the way there and find out myself,” He once again outsmarted you.

You sighed in defeat. “I’m going to the park.”

“What? Why?” He raised an eyebrow at you.

“Because I want to see someone,” You said, barely loud enough for him to hear you.

“Oh my God, (Y/N). You are dating someone, aren’t you?! I told you, no boyfriends!” He yelled.

“It’s not your job to tell me what I can or cannot do. If I want to date, I’m gonna date and there ain’t nothin’ you can do about it!” You snarled, slamming the door in his face.

You marched out to your car, knowing your brother all too well. You knew there was no way he was going to let you get away that easily. Sure enough, he came running out to his own car, gripping keys in his hands.

You pulled away, in attempt to get off before he could catch up, but you failed. Niall followed you all the way to the park, getting out after you. You started to run, wanting him to give up, but he was too stubborn for that.

He ran right after you. You made it to a tree before you stopped to breathe; turning around only to be met with Niall’s piercing eyes.

“Nice try,” He growled, grabbing your arm and dragging you back with him.

“Let go of me, you filthy animal!” You screamed the first thing that came to mind.

“Never!” He shouted back. He dragged you to his car, and pushed you against the window. He looked you in the eye, which was quite intimidating, coming from him. “Stay away from boys, (Y/N). I know how stupid guys can be, and I don’t want anything to happen to you.”

“Niall, I’m not stupid. I’m not just going to fall for anyone,” You said, sharply.

“Love can blind you sometimes, if that’s what you want to call it. You are the last person who deserves a broken heart. I know how miserable it is, (Y/N). That’s the thing here; I know. I know these things because I’ve been through them before. I’ve been stupid before, I’ve messed up before. I’ve trusted people that I shouldn’t have. For heaven’s sake, (Y/N), please just listen to me. You have a great life right now. The last thing you need is for some stupid boy to ruin that for you. I know I sound cheesy, but just listen to me, okay? Be smart.”

You took in everything he just said to you. You realized he was right. You were fine with all you had, and you didn’t need anything more. You nodded and pulled Niall into a bear hug. “I’m sorry, Nialler,” You cried, holding onto him.

“Don’t apologize. This sort of thing is why I’m here. And I’ll always be here. If you ever need me,” He smiled, wiping away your tears. You both drove back home, where you belonged. And, you were so grateful to have a brother as good as Niall. When he says he’ll always be there, you know he means it.
