Imagine for Lilly!

There was silence in the church; nothing could be heard but the few sniffles of those who had a tendency to be more emotional. This silence was not good for you, because it was giving you more time to think. More time to consider running out of the church as fast as your heels would let you, with no regrets. Even as you stood there, face-to-face with your soon to be husband, you wondered why you ever let yourself get into this mess. You wondered why you didn’t just back out sooner, when you still had a chance.

Niall was seated in the second row, behind your parents. He was always your closest friend, so there was no question that he would be invited to the wedding, no matter how much the delicate groom protested. Niall squirmed uncomfortably in his seat. He didn’t want to be there any more than you did. In fact, he often eyed the door, wondering how much attention it would attract if he just made a run for it. He found himself fidgeting, bouncing his good knee, as you stood at the front of the church, wearing a beautiful dress. His eyes then traveled to the groom, and he couldn’t help the look of disgust that tugged at his features. I could be so much better, he thought to himself. I should be up there marrying Lilly, not that thing.

You glanced at the audience, your eyes first landing on your parents. Your mother was repetitively wiping at her eyes with a tissue, while your dad was avoiding any type of eye-contact with anyone. Understandably so. He was probably just as ashamed of you as you were with yourself. Again, you considered running for the door, and maybe, just maybe, taking that cute blonde with you. Of course, to him is where you looked next. Your lips curled into a smile as you saw him struggling to sit still. He caught your stare, and a smirk played onto his face while he rolled his eyes. He held onto that smirk for a moment longer before shaking his head and dropping his eyes to his shiny shoes.

You felt a squeeze on your hand, which fished your attention back to where it was supposed to be. The silence grew even more obvious, and you wore a puzzled expression on your face as your groom squeezed your hand again. You looked around, and impatient faces stared back at you. “Say ‘I do’,” Your groom whispered harshly through the side of his mouth, glaring at you. You hadn’t even realized that the wedding had reached this point already.  Your lips began to quiver, and your hands trembled. It was becoming difficult to stand, as all you wanted to do was escape. You found yourself backing away, as breathless words left your mouth.

“Are you alright?” You heard a voice ask, and you felt a hand on your back, but you couldn’t form the words to answer the voice. All you could do was shake your head, as you felt your heartbeat increasing. All eyes were on you, and you frantically searched the various faces until you caught sight of Niall again. Once your eyes landed on him, a sigh of relief left your lips. Your groom growled once he identified who you were staring at. To put it in simple terms, Niall and your groom never got along.

“You might as well be marrying that leprechaun,” The groom snarled, throwing his hands in the air in defeat. “I give up. It’s not like it ever would have worked between us anyway.” With that, he ripped his tie off, throwing it behind him. He shoved through the wooden doors, and his family hurried after him. The second he disappeared, Niall was at your side. Everyone else that was left behind didn’t know what to do. Your father nearly leaped with happiness, whereas your mother let out a dramatic sob.

By this time, you were curled up on the floor, hugging your knees to your chest. “Look at me,” Niall whispered in a soft tone, before he placed his hand against the side of your face, gently forcing you to look up at him. “You’re better off without him,” He assured you, though you already knew this.

“I agree with Niall,” Your father’s voice caused you and Niall to both look in his direction. “You,” He pointed at Niall. “You would be a much better fit for my daughter.”

Niall’s face reddened and he took your hand in his, before standing. He brought you up with him, and you brushed your hands along the side of your dress. As you took in your surroundings, you could see that nearly everyone had fled the church. Only some of your family, as well as Niall and your parents, were left.

“Does that mean I have your permission to marry your daughter, then, sir?” Niall politely asked, linking his arm with yours.

“Absolutely,” Your dad gave Niall a firm handshake, before patting the boy on the back.

You inhaled a sharp breath and Niall turned to you again. He brought your hand to his lips, saying, “All I need now is you.”

“Need no more,” You told him, wrapping your arms around his neck. “Of course I’ll marry you, Niall.”

**I literally had to write this one over and over again, and I think I finally got it right this time. I honestly hope you enjoyed this, because I enjoyed writing it!**
