Frypan's perspective:

Y/N didn't come get me for anything. When I went back to get her dishes, she was asleep. I didn't blame the kid, I mean, if the shank I loved went and got trapped in the maze at night... I'd probably hide away from everyone else too. I slept in the homestead that night, just down the hall on a sleeping bag on Newt's floor.

We were up most the night, or half up anyways, making sure poor Limabean didn't need anything.

Everyone was worried about the guys. But I think Limabean was the most worried. Us boys, we'd known the slintheads longer but the kid had a big heart. I just know she was hurting, worrying for us every time we got ourselves into a fight or something. The kid cared.

She's the only person I'll ever let cook in my kitchen besides me. I might even tell her my secret recipes. I'm gonna keep the kid safe. I promised her that I would, so I will. I had to. After all, she's my best friend.

Newt's perspective:

We woke up early, like we always did: Before the doors opened and before the sun came out. I was in a bloody awful mood. Who wouldn't be when they'd just watched some of their best friends meet their inevitable doom?

I woke up with a headache, and my limp was worse than normal. I heard the other gladers waking up down the hall so I went to check on Y/N. Frypan had already left for the kitchens. He was late to start cooking breakfast, but after staying up most of the night in case Y/N needed something, we both could use the extra half hour.

I knocked lightly on the door of her bedroom, just in case she was awake already, before poking my head in. She was on her side, curled up in a little ball, still sleeping. I closed the door and went down to the gardens to start work. I watched the runners heading to the map room. I felt a pang of sadness in my chest, but I turned back to the tomatoes and got back to work.

The doors started opening and everyone looked up, bloody hopeful that somehow the shanks had survived. When they finally banged open completely, we were all stood completely still, waiting.

It wasn't possible. I must've been hallucinating.

"Thomas!" I cheered. The bloody idiots were alive! All three of them, Thomas, Minho, and Alby. Though Alby was unconscious he was definitely still alive. I followed Clint and Jeff to the medjacks hut with Alby on a stretcher. My thoughts briefly went to Y/N. Someone should tell her. Minho was still lying on the grass, exhausted from a night and days worth of running from grievers, probably.

I saw Chuck running towards the homestead and knew he would tell her. They were alive. Bloody hell it was a miracle.

For the second time that morning, you heard a knock on your door. You hadn't slept all night, you were too busy tossing and turning and crying quietly.

This glader didn't poke his head in to the room quietly, though. He pounded on the door before barging right in, a big grin on his chubby cheeks.

"Y/N, you'll never guess what!" As soon as the name left his lips, I was out of bed and down the hall. I bolted down the stairs as fast as you could, with Chuck not far behind you. You tripped on the last step and fell, but you scrambled to your feet and out the homestead's door. Your feet were bare as you sprinted across the feet grass and cold dirt. You kept stumbling over your own feet because of the lack of sleep you'd gotten but you pushed yourself forward.

"Minho," your voice was hoarse but you yelled again, "Minho!" You tripped over yourself again and landed in the dirt, hard.

You started crying again, but her was there, he sat you up and kneeled in front of you, wiping the dirt and tears from your face.

"It's okay, Y/N, it's okay, I'm here. I'm here. It's okay." You just sobbed. The words wouldn't come out. He held you close and pet your hair, "Oh my god I thought I was dead, I thought I was so dead but I'm back and you're here, you're here, oh my god. I love you." He kissed your forehead.

"Minho," you sobbed.

"I know, I know, I'm here now, it's okay." At some point he lifted you up and brought you to bed, as soon as you were both in the blankets together, you passed out and slept until dinner.

You didn't run anymore. Minho didn't even ask why, he knew. You and Frypan just cooked and laughed like normal. And everything was back to normal, for about three days.

Then your worst nightmares started coming true.
