After a couple of months Karl noticed that Mateo and Alexis weren't developing like other children were. They hadn't started crawling, nor had they started cooing. They remained silent, not even letting out a cry, and stared at the ceiling of whatever room they were in. It worried Karl, He wanted his adopted babies to be healthy, but it was clear something was wrong. So he voiced his concerns with Alex and Nick. "They aren't walking yet...or even crawling and they haven't started babbling either" Karl said as he tried to get Alexis to bounce on his knee. Alex held Mateo, the one he always held, and cradled him. "Are you sure?" he asked worriedly. Nick started to google it. "Yeah...they're late" He hummed "Maybe we should get them to see a doctor?" Karl nodded. He helped Nick set up the appointment while Alex took hold of the twins and walked them to his room.

"You can walk can't you?" he hummed kindly as he held Alexis up by her armpits. Mateo had gotten more attention from Alex, so it was Alexis's turn. "Here...walk for Papí" He hummed. Alexis kicked her legs out just a bit but made no attempt at walking. "...Come on conjita" Alex urged with a frown. He was starting to worry now, he didn't want them to be any different then the others. "Alex?" Nick and Karl were at the door "They..They won't walk" Alex said, his voice shaking. He started to cry so Karl comforted him while Nick picked up the twins and set them in their carriers. "It's okay Alex...their gonna be okay" Karl soothed though he wasn't so sure. "I just don't want them to grow up feeling different" Sobbed Alex covering his face, Karl was on the verge of tears himself. It broke his heart to think these kids may have something wrong with them. Couldn't their family get at least one break? It seemed everything was trying to bring them down, and to crush them or break them apart!

"Well...it appears during the birthing little Alexis here had gotten injured here" The doctor touched three spots on Alexis's legs. "She won't be able to walk...." Alex reached and grabbed the little girl's hand, watching her small fingers curl around his. He couldn't cry, not now. He had to be strong. Karl on the other hand, was trying to make the best out of this situation "Okay...well that's not too bad as long as she's okay" Nick hid his face, but it was clear he was crying. "And Mateo?" Alex asked "he'll develop just fine, he's only a late bloomer though I suggest you watch out for him. From what we gathered he could get sick very easily...and He has asthma" Alex wanted to shout at her. Could these kids get a break? With the kind of mother they had, a woman who didn't want them, with the challenges they would face growing up with three dads, and the lives they would lead now. "Okay..." alex breathed picking Alexis up. She started to cry instantly and the Doctor hushed her "She's gotten shots too, so here" The doctor gave Alex two needles and some type of liquid "Give her x each day, she'll cry so try not to worry too much. it's normal" Alex gripped the bag tight as he held Alexis in his other hand. "Okay" He said stiffly while Karl took hold of the carriers and held them out for his husband's to place the babies down. Once they were strapped in they said their goodbyes to the doctors and went home.   That night Alex gave Alexis her first shot, and he cried with her.
