Loud, high-pitched screeches and yells caught the attention of Hook, Elena and Pan, and Hook immediately rushed up to the roof with Elena and Pan following close behind.
"Swan! What the blazes was that?"
"A reminder that we were never safe," Emma answered breathlessly, "that what I wanted, what I thought I could have was not in the cards for the Saviour. We leave in the morning."
"Henry will be back in the morning," Elena reminded them.
"That's right. You two need to go."
"We'll come calling for you mid-morning then," Hook told them with a nod, and Emma nodded in agreement, disappearing back into the building.
"I'll be back," Peter promised Elena with a smile, brushing a stray strand of hair out of her face before closing the gap between them, pressing his soft lips on hers and wrapping his arms around her waist for a few long moments. Elena smiled as they parted, hugging him quickly before going back downstairs into the apartment, Pan following Hook.
Henry was none the wiser to the events of the night before when he arrived home, but with Emma acting quiet and easily startled and Elena distracted and quiet, he caught on a little.
"Mum. Mum!"
Emma blinked and turned around from whisking eggs violently in a glass jug, and Elena looked up too. "You're hurting the eggs."
"Right," she said with a sigh, pouring the mixture into a pan and prodding at it with a spatula. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"Do you believe in magic?" she asked him, and Elena glanced at Henry in interest.
"Of course," he said, and Emma raised her brows in surprise. "And the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. If it gets me a present, I believe."
Emma smiled lightly and turned back to the oven, but Henry followed her movements. "You're not sure you made the right decision, are you?"
"I just didn't feel like pancakes," Emma responded.
"About Walsh," Henry persisted.
"Oh," Emma said with a slight laugh. "I made the right decision. I'm certain. It's just gonna be us three, kids, for a little while."
"As long as you're happy," Henry gave in, having a bite of his breakfast and then getting up. "Tasty, but I gotta run. I'm gonna be late for school. You kind of overslept."
"Nope," Emma interrupted, "no school today. How about we go on a trip?"
"Like a vacation?"
"Like I have a new case," Emma said slowly, "and it's in Maine, and it might take me a while, and I think we should go. It would be an adventure."
"No school?" Henry repeated. "A trip with you? Sold."
Emma smiled and Elena nodded in agreement.
"Good, 'cause I already packed."
"When do we leave?"
"Now," Emma told him, just before a few knocks at the door caught their attention.
"Are you expecting someone?" Henry questioned.
"Yeah," Emma said softly after a moment, before opening the door and stepping aside to let Hook saunter in, Peter Pan following.
"You ready, Swan?"
"Henry, this is Killian," Emma said quickly, "he's- I'm, um, I'm helping him with his case. And the boy behind him is Pa- uh, Peter."
