Awake

It takes me a while to realize I am asleep. I find myself floating in a dark water where, apparently, I could breathe. For some odd reason this didn't stand out to me. I swim for a while, however, it is completely empty and there is nothing to see. The lack of sound becomes eary and I start to wonder where I am. Then, the panic hits.

I don't think of myself as someone who is afraid of the ocean, but you try floating underwater for what feels like hours with no sound and nothing to see. My eyes dart around for something - anything that could stimulate my mind other then thinking what could be waiting for me out in the waters. I start to try to swim up, and I do, but it doesn't seem I'm really going anywhere. Something moves out of the corner of my eye. Something... Human, but not quite. Like a dark blur. I try to move my head with it but it it's like he is moving through air and the water around me slows my movements. I see piercing red lights that I realize are its eyes

Its body is long and slender, but human. I come to realize this, because it has stopped circling me and is now slowly inching forward. Its grin grows and it lifts its chin up at me in superiority, "Wake up," it says, but it sounds muffled through the water. Its hand reaches out and seizes my throat, "Wake up!" It screeches again as it keeps a firm grip around my throat. I can't breathe anymore so i try to open my mouth but it is sewn shut. I thrash violently - or try to - but the thick water around me slows my movements. "Wake... Up..." It says again as its jaw unhinges and it swallows me whole-

I jolt, but don't open my eyes. I can already tell I am not in the alley, but I also don't know where I am. I slowly open one eye, just enough to see. I immediately close it again shielding it from the blinding light. Where am I? I think, still not wanting to move.

I hear a slight shuffling beside me. Then, a man with an old, kind voice asks: "Are you awake yet, Jordan?"

this makes me confused. How does he know my name? The voice certainly isn't familiar...

"There is no point in trying to act like you are asleep, your aura is completely different when you are asleep." This voice is female. Probably around 16? Same age as me. She sounds bored, "Get up already, we aren't going to hurt you," She says poking my arm.

Without opening my eyes I ask, "Where am I?"

The old man chuckles "I'm sorry, you must be confused." I hear him stand up so I decide to open my eyes. He is wearing a light khaki colored suit with a dark red tie and white undershirt. He is definitely old, but he is massive and pale. Kind of intimidating. His voice doesn't match him. He sees I have opened my eyes, "Come on then, get up, wake up... Take a look at your surroundings this will be your new room."

I raise my eyebrow at him "And what if i don't want to stay?" I look from him to the darker skinned female. She looks Japanese, probably. They are perfect opposites. I lift myself onto my elbows and look around at the room.

It isn't big, probably about the size of the living room at my mother's apartment. The whole room is blinding white and the lights light the room up with ease, bouncing around off of the all-white room. It reminds me of a hospital room almost. I looks down at the bed, covered with white blankets and pillows all thrown around and tangled around me. So I was moving in my sleep? I wonder to myself.

"Welcome to the Institute for Seers. IFS for short," The old man gives a big smile, holding his hands out to his sides and sweeping them around the scenery, "My name is Professor Adrab."

I look blankly at him "Sears? Like, the store?"

He looks blankly back at me "What? No, See-ers," he shakes his head chuckling a bit, "You are an odd one."

"Tell me about it," The girl announces from the chair she had been sitting in, "Neya, by the way. Nice to meet you." She seems to think for a second, then smirks to herself. Lost in her own thoughts

I throw my legs over the side of the bed sitting up ad resting my head in my hand. "So, what is a Seer, then?" I ask looking up from my hand.

The girl stands up, "Welp, I'll be leaving then... I don't need to hear this lecture again" As she walks out i stare after her, her long black hair swaying as she leaves

The professor grabs the chair that Neya had been sitting in and scoots it closer to the bed I am sitting on "Hm," he says scratching his head, "I suppose I should start from the beginning?" He smiles, his blue eyes glinting
