"Sir, a massive portal resembling an eye has opened above central park."

....ok, not the weirdest sentence Jarvis has ever woken me up with. Probably.

Tony groaned and rolled over in the, oh so heavenly silk sheets. "Five more minutes sweetheart." he slurred into the pillow.

"Sir, I must impress on you that this is a serious threat." Jarvis repeated, as if Tony's sleep wasn't a serious threat too.

Tony 'humph'ed and pulled the sheets up a little higher.

"I am now sounding the tower alarms." Jarvis stated, almost smugly, a second before the alarms started blaring.

Tony let out a massive, disgusted sigh and heaved himself out of bed. There was no way he'd be able to go back to sleep with the alarms singing like canaries.

"Jarvis get my suit and have a cup of espresso ready when I get back."

Sure enough, it was an eyeball.

Tony squinted at his helmet displays. He'd seen his fair share of portals, but whoever opened this one had an interesting taste in design.

Thor, who was flying next to him, seemed similarly surprised, which unfortunately confirmed Tony's fears that he was, in fact, not hallucinating.

"Odin's beard!" Thor exclaimed, and Tony had to agree.

There was an elaborate circle shaped design etched in the sky in glowing blue energy, and at its center, was a massive grey eye.

"Are you guys seeing this or am I drunk?" Hawkeye asked over the comms.

"If you are, I am too." Tony admitted, "And so is Thor. Which is, you know...impossible." Tony added, hearing Clint swear into the communicator.

"I want Tony, Thor, and Sam in the air. Perimeter it. We need to be ready in case whatever comes through is a threat." Captain America ordered, "Clint, Natasha, get any civilians out of here. Hulk, you and I are staying on the ground."

"Rodger that, Rodgers." Tony quipped, circling the portal in the air.

Suddenly, hand shaped black tendrils seeped out of the eye, waving through the air. Clint swore and muttered something about 'ominous shit'.

"Thor, any idea what we're dealing with here?" Cap's voice asked over the com

"Nay." he replied gravely, "I have never seen the likes of this in all the Nine."

Tony stared at the flimsy, ribbon-like tendrils coming from the eye. He could have sworn one waved at him.

"The hand thingies are lowering something!" Clint, who had by far the sharpest eye-sight, suddenly yelled into the comm.

Tony quickly checked his weapons, and Thor tensed.

The arms were lowering something through the center of the eye, but he couldn't tell what it was yet. However, the sudden 'ding!' in his armor, informing him of a new heat signature, meant it was alive.

Tony flew a little closer, and could see now that it was a body, in probably human shape. Whatever it was was wearing a bright red cape (or was it a cloak?) that immediately made him think of Thor. Whatever it was, it seemed unconscious.

It would have been nice if the shadow arm thingies should have lowered the figure all the way down to the grass, nice and peaceful, but of course, it (they?) didn't.

"Tony!" Clint yelled, because the 'arms' had given up about halfway, and now the figure was plummeting towards the earth.

Tony quickly dived, but Thor beat him to it, snatching the figure out of the air and landing on the grass below. Tony noted that the portal disappeared immediately after (surprisingly, it hadn't exploded or diffused a death gas or anything particularly threatening, which was new.), then dove down to land on the trimmed grass next to Thor, who was examining the figure. Cap, Nat, and Clint quickly made their way over too.

At this close proximity, Tony could see that the figure was definitely human shaped, but he didn't want to jump the gun on deciding the species, because Thor looked pretty human, but he certainly was not. The figure had long, braided, fantastically golden hair (In fact it was probably some weird golden helmet) and a bright red cloak with an unusual snake symbol on the back. Thor was rolling the figure over to see its face.

"Tis only a child!" Thor exclaimed, and he was right. The kid looked young, probably 14 or 15. He was dressed in all black under that red cloak, save for white gloves.

"Thor's right." Sam said, inspecting the figure, "It's just a kid."

"A kid that fell through an eyeball portal from god knows where." Clint corrected.

Cap looked at the kid for a moment, mentally debating the risks of taking an unknown being from an unknown origin back to base, but eventually the part of him insisting that it was a kid, (who might need medical attention) won out.

Steve turned to the other avengers, "Lets take him back to the tower."
