Antonio's POV-
Today's the day. September 25th 2003. Carol, my wife, has just gone into labour with our twins. After having 5 boys I think we were both relieved when the doctor told us we were having a girl. All throughout the pregnancy, we have been thinking of names for our little angels. With the help of our sons we came up with Talia Blake Angel Arcardi and Matteo Xavier Arcardi. Talia is already all of our weaknesses and I know her twin brother is going to protect her just like us for as long as we are alive. We will love her forever and always. I promise il mio piccolo angelo.
One Year Later
Third person POV-
It's been a rough year for the Arcardi family. After the birth of the twins, Carol suffered from postpartum depression and locked herself in her room all day every day for months. After getting too much for Antonio as hard as it was for him to look after 6 kids and run a mafia by himself he had decided to divorce his wife.
Carol decided to take Antonio on in a custody battle for their daughter. She was successful in getting full custody and didn't wait around before fleeing to the opposite side of the country. New York. She suffered from depression and put blame on Talia for Antonio divorcing her. For a year Carol neglected her daughter, hardly feeding her, barely bathing her, only buying her new stuff if the old one was crumbling to pieces. She turned to drugs and alcohol before abusing her daughter. She would hit Talia for every noise she made. As a baby... that was a lot.
Carol got a boyfriend called Mark not long after arriving in New York. He saw Carol's treatment of her daughter and tried to help in any way he could whether it was distracting Carol so that she wouldn't hit her or making her leave the house so that he could tend to Talia. On Talia's 2nd birthday Carol got so high and drunk that she was passed out on the couch by 2 pm. Mark took this as a chance to give Talia a better life than she was getting. He packed her a bag with her purple elephant stuffie and her locket from presumably her father and fled with her to the nearest firehouse where he knew he could seek refuge with the young girl. He left thinking the young Arcardi was getting the life she deserved full of love and adventures.
Boy was he wrong.

I know this chapter is short but it is just the prologue and they will get longer in the next few chapters. All translations are done on google translate so I apologise if there are any errors but please let me know if you see any!
I hope you enjoyed this first chapter. I am going to try and upload as much as possible but I currently have my GCSE's, which if you aren't from the UK are exams. See you soon my lovelies.
