You ran. You ran until your legs felt numb and your lungs burned but you still didn't stop. Nothing could make you stop.

You could hear her behind you. It seemed like she became two steps closer every time you ran ahead ten steps. You knew in a matter of time her long strides would overtake you no matter how fast you willed your legs to carry you. You would just have to outsmart her. That was the only way you would get out of it.
As if the castle itself was listening to you, one of the doors to one of the many secret passages that led to the basement was wide open. Practically begging you to escape through it. Her steps were right behind you now. With all the strength you had left, you took one last giant stride and dove through the opening of the passage. Her hand just barely missed your ankle before you collapsed beyond her reach. You could breathe for a second, you knew she couldn't fit through the door that had just become your salvation. You peered behind you and jumped at the sight. She stood in front of the opening, leaning down so far that she almost had to brace her arms on the floor to keep herself from falling over. A wicked smile played across her mouth that made you go pale and her golden eyes bore a hole through you.
"Clever little mouse aren't you? But would you really rather risk stumbling through the cellar to escape me then up here?" Her chilling voice sent a shiver down your spine but you turned away, silently answering her question by disappearing through the dark corridor.
Her booming laugh slowly grew further away as you got lost in the darkness. As the air grew more damp and the smell of rotting flesh became more potent you began to wonder if it really was the best idea. Perhaps you should have just stayed put when you jumped through the door, then again she would have waited. Even if it took days until you had to come out before starving to death in that hole. You began to wonder if you should just find a hiding place and stay there until she gave up. But she wouldn't give up, you knew that.
You rounded a few more corners trying to decide what to do until you ended up wandering the vast rows of wine kegs. Deciding that it would be a good place to catch your breath, you nestled between one of the kegs and the wall. You had hardly begun calming down when footsteps started to echo through the cellar. You silently curse under your breath and scoot further back. If you crane your neck, you could see her shadow that the candles cast along the floor.
"I know you're in here little mouse." She chuckled. "You're racing heart is betraying you."
Shit. Of course she could hear your heartbeat with her insanely keen senses. You take a shaky breath and close your eyes, trying to imagine yourself anywhere but here. Somewhere on the beach, far away from the castle. Anything to slow down your heart from beating so fast. And it must have worked. Her footsteps stopped and you heard her release a frustrated growl. You opened your eyes to asses where she was but instead of seeing her, you were staring into the face of one of her daughters twisted creatures that tormented the cellar. You couldn't hold the scream that vibrated off of every service as you desperately tried to get away from its grasp. You jumped over the keg you had been hiding behind but it already had you tight in it's grasp, pulling you closer and closer to it's mouth. On excruciatingly perfect timing, a long razor sharp nail Pierced the creature through the head and pinned it to the Keg behind it. Blood from the punctured keg spewed mercilessly on you as you watched horrified. Above you, the Lady stood grinning, knowing that she won. She pulled her hand back but frowned when it didn't budge. You're eyes flickered back to the keg, her nail stuck deep within its wood holding her hostage. At least momentarily. You took your opening and ran. You had just made it out of arms length when she freed herself and once again
began chasing after you. All you could do was hope that you could gain some distance by running around obstacles. And it was beginning to work. Her height left her agility at a disadvantage and you heard her yell obscenities behind you as you dashed through the door and back into the foyer of the castle.
You had made it halfway up the staircase to the second floor when she burst through the door of the cellar. Her anger was so severe that she had forgone opening the door and just elected to kick it off it's hinges. You began taking two steps at a time and rounded a corner towards one of the bedrooms. You looked over your shoulder to asses your distance when you ran straight into a wall. You groaned as you picked yourself up, only to find that the wall had of course been her. She hungrily looked down at you. Her anger transformed into a snarl and you felt your heart drop. You lost.
Her hands gripped your arms tightly against your body and lifted you up until you were looking her in the eye.
"I must admit, I underestimated you. But in the end, you still lose." She triumphantly smirked.
You still had one more desperate trick up your sleeve. You stiffened your body and rolled your eyes into the back of your head before going slack. Her grip on you loosened considerably. Enough for you to grab the bottoms of her arms with your hands and push yourself down with all your strength. You hit the ground with a huff and dove between her legs as she leaned down to catch you. You slid underneath her dress and ran like mad to the open window at the end of the hall. Without a second thought you dove through it, disregarding that it was on the second floor.
You fell into a bunch of bushes, not even noticing that they were rose bushes and you were stuck in a hundred places by their thorns. You crawled away from it and looked up at the window. Above you, she didn't even look angry anymore. She was overcome with shock, her jaw wide open in disbelief. If your skin wasn't beginning to throb from all the thorn pricks you would laugh at the expression. The moment quickly faded however when her expression went dark and she beat her fists against the windowsill.
"(Y/n)! I swear to mother Miranda I am going to kill you when I get down there. What an absolutely stupid, dramatic, careless move!" She turned her back and walked away from the window, no doubt rushing down to come outside. You could still hear her yelling from a distance.
You leaned against a nearby tree and began picking out some of the thorns still stuck in your skin without a care in the world. The door to the back flew open and she came storming up to you in a fury. Her shadow loomed over you but you stayed silent. Her foot tapped impatiently against the ground.
"Well?" She growled above you. You couldn't suppress the grin on your face as you finally looked up to meet her blazing eyes.
"I won." You laughed, not believing it yourself.
"You did not! I caught you on the second floor. And how dare you pull that stunt. You don't win by pulling such conniving, childish tricks!" She barked.
"You didn't catch me if I got away! And you said my name! You know that if one of us says the others name that the game is automatically over. That was your rule." You smiled triumphantly.
She shook her fists beside her and let out a loud, frustrated huff. You couldn't help but laugh at her pout which seemed to only annoy her more.
"Alcina." You said her name softly, knowing that she wouldn't be able to resist looking at you. "I'm sorry for scaring you." You suppressed the grin still sitting under the surface of your emotions. You knew she was a sore loser, but then again this was the first time she ever lost you're little game of tag.
"Thank you." She huffed before taking your arm gently in her hand and crouching down closer to your level.
"What are you doing?" You winced as she took out the last thorn in your arm.
"Cleaning up my idiot that dove into a rose bush." She brought your arm up to her mouth and licked the trickle of blood from one of your scrapes. She closed her eyes, trying not to give away how much she always enjoying tasting you but it didn't go unnoticed by you.
"Seems like you wouldn't complain if I did it more often." You laughed. She shot you a glare before dropping your arm. Before you could blink, she picked you up and threw you over her shoulder and headed back towards the castle doors.
"What are you doing?" You laughed hysterically at the entire situation.
"Taking you to bed." She stated matter of factly. You're laughs subsided as she threw you into the mattress and crawled over you.
"I thought you were mad I won?" You asked.
She took your left hand and left a chaste kiss on the ring that bared the Dimitrescu crest before pinning your hands next to your head.
"I am. But now I want to play a game that I know you want to lose." She smirked before lowering her lips onto yours. And she was right, this was one game that you never dared tried to win.
