Chapter XVII: Believe in me

Dazai's pov-

-Mitchell? Where is Mori, Akutagawa and Tachihara?

-Oh, there here, say hi Akutagawa-kun.- I heard the woman named Margaret put up the phone to someones ear.

-We're okay for now.- It was Akutagawa. Thank god they're okay.

-Where are you?- Chuuya asked with no hesitations.

-Oh, We're having a little party at the top of the building. Come join us, we can play some games.- Mitchell answered and hung up.

We ran upstairs to the roof because we didn't want to wait for the elevator. Chuuya broke through the locked door at the end of the staircase and I followed him fearlessly.

-Well, look, Howard, they actually came.- Margaret said to the tall man behind her.- They're that eager to save their boss.

-Well, I don't work here yet.- I added.

-I don't care. All I want is to destroy you, Nakahara.

-Where are they?- Chuuya yelled.

-They're safe and sound. Howard, now!

As she said the man behind her grew tentacles.

-What the fuck is this?- I asked Chuuya.

-I've never seen him use his ability before... Is this it?

Giant tentacles started attacking us. I ran as they hit the ground behind me while Chuuya was jumping up and down, trying to avoid them.

Chuuya's pov-

I tried avoinding the tentacles but I needed to somehow defeat Lovecraft. I pulled out a few bullets out of my pockets and threw them in the air, making them fly over to our enemy with my ability. I was aiming for his chest, but the tentacles caught all the bullets.

I didn't know what to do. That's when he started speaking again. "Do it, I know you want to. There's no other way you can defeat him. Kill!" All he did was repeat those words.

-No, no, no, I can't!- I yelled, just later realizing that I said it out loud.

-Chuuya is everything okay?- Dazai ran up to me, still avoiding the giant tentacles.

-Yes.- As I said that, one of them almost hit Dazai but I pulled him out of the way and he fell on the ground.

-Howard, you know what? Plan B! We will destroy them!- As Margaret said that, she ran away. I tried catching her, but she was too slick.

-God damn it.- I yelled, then turned back to Lovecraft.

He slowly grew and grew tentacles, until he turned into a giant octopus-tentacle monster.

-What the fuck is this?- Dazai shouted again.

-Oh, I see. So he has two abilities too.- I said confidently, but in reality I didn't know what to do. I was scared that I'll lose Dazai. I need to protect him. But how?

"You know what to do, Chuuya." He spoke again. I knew it was the only way to defeat Lovecraft and I didn't care that I could die, all I wanted was to protect Dazai.

I put my hand and Dazai's shoulder.

-I will do something, but when I'll defeat him, promise me something.- I said

-What?

I pulled out a knife out of my pocket.

-Promise me you'll kill me afterwards.- I gave him the knife.

-W-what?!? Chuuya, you know this is reckless! I can't do it! I won't do it!

-Dazai, please... If you don't do it, the whole city could fall, maybe even the whole Japan. Please, I'm begging you!

-I-I... I don't know if I can... I love you, Chuuya, I don't want to let you go!

-I love you too, Dazai...- As I said that I took off my gloves and my coat.

I felt dark power evolve inside of me. Then I lost control and let it take over.

Dazai's pov-

I felt tears rolling down my face. I didn't want to let him go, but I knew he needed to do this.

He took off his coat and gloves and tilted his head to the sky. Red pattern slowly appeared on his hands, then on his neck and cheeks. He started laughing as the monster started attacking him.

Chuuya flew! He flew up in the sky, then some red light started growing in his hands. He shot them towards the monster, blowing up some of the tentacles, but the monster regenerated. He did the same thing again, sadly, it didn't work.

He tried doing it again but this time with one giant light bubble. It blew up most of the giant octopus, but it still didn't kill him. That's when Chuuya looked closer at the beast and saw a small hole inside him. That's right, we need to blow him up from the inside, I thought.

Hat rack started flying straight at him, not slowing down. Then he made one of those red bubbles again and streched his arm with it in front of him.
