THREE YEARS LATER

"Bokuto, your voicemail again?"

The sound of Akaashi's voice is light against my ear as I listen to the second voicemail he left last night. Maybe I shouldn't have put my phone on do not disturb.

"You've probably trained a lot today, then. If you're asleep, I just want to remind you of our plan to meet tomorrow. We can meet at the restaurant at six, I'll be off work beforehand. See you then."

See you, I think to myself. I drop my phone back on the night table before slowly getting up to sit on the edge of the bed. Propping my elbows on my knees, I squeeze my hands together before looking back at the mattress.

On the other side, she's sleeping soundly with her back towards me. Her side rises and falls with every breath, and the ray of afternoon light peeking through the window slit drifts back and forth on her bare shoulder, which is partially covered by her (H/C) hair. A tight-lipped smile appears on my face, and I bring myself up to a stand after one last look.

It doesn't take me long to find what I have to wear, and soon enough, I'm out the door.

I shove my hands in my pockets, inhaling the crisp air and blowing out cloudy breaths. I pull out my phone to check the time, realizing that there are four hours until I have to meet with Akaashi. I'm not sure what to do while I wait for him to get off work, but I know that I'd rather not be inside for now. I need to find some way to make myself busy.

Luckily, I don't have to walk for long before I find something that looks interesting. A pop-up flower market stands across the street from me, and I cross to meet it.

A wide variety of flowers are hung and displayed on an array of kiosks. I walk down the path of them with leisure. This isn't something I would normally consider doing, especially on my own. But, I've come to learn just how distracted I can make myself if I have to be.
