"You should be mine."

"Hey, (Y/N)! Come jump off this thing with me!"

"Hey, (Y/N)! Come jump off this thing with me!"

The boy I came to the park with is now standing on top of the big rock nearby. From my spot in the grass, I look at him with widened eyes, wondering how he got up there in the first place. With the height and the jaggedness, I start to get doubtful of his safety.

"No! If you jump off, you'll get hurt!" I shout.

"No, I won't!" He shouts back. "Come jump, come jump!"

"I'm not going to!" I shake my head.

I can only assume that his courage comes from our sighting of some older boys doing the same thing the last time we were here. Still, his demeanour doesn't make me any more confident in the likely outcome.

"(Y/N)... come on! I have to go home soon!" He yells from the top of the boulder.

"Let's just go home then!" I counter, and he hangs his head back in frustration.

"Come o-o-o-on," he says as he stamps his feet on the rock.

"I'm not coming!" I plant my feet on the grass with my arms crossed, turning my gaze away pointedly.

"(Y/N), please! I'll protect you, I promise!" He pleads.

I look at him again, keeping my arms crossed. His face almost looks sad, and I think that he might cry if I don't go up there with him. He said he'd protect me. Whatever that means when you're jumping off of a big rock with no cushion.

Yet, the look in his eyes as he outstretches a hand to me despite the distance between us makes me believe he will. Though sometimes people say that he is flighty and unpredictable, I don't think he has ever gone back on his word.

"... You'll protect me?" I repeat, and as soon as he hears my voice change, his eyes grow big.

"Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes...!" he says over and over, and I eventually tune him out before approaching him.
