I have never read or watched a story like this one. It is one of a kind. I didn't know how I would feel about a story being told partly by someone who is in a coma and someone who is fully alert but unable to voluntarily move or communicate with those around him, but after reading it, I feel like it was well done and original. It was beautifully written, sad but also hopeful. This story makes you reflect back on it after you have finished it. It's a reminder that every life should be cared for and respected even if the situation seems impossible. I had once seen a man in a coma while visiting a relative in the hospital. They were in the bed across from my relative. I ignored them and only paid attention to my relative because I was told that he was fully asleep but now, with this book, if I ever come into that situation again I have to wonder, what if the staff is wrong, what if the lights are on inside that person's brain in that broken body. I didn't say anything to them at the time but maybe if I happen to be in that situation again I'll say a few words, just so that they don't feel alone and that they feel human. This book also makes you re-think the rights of those who cannot speak for themselves and the balance of caring for those who are vulnerable. My review doesn't give this book enough justice and can't say it enough this one is for sure worth a read. It's a sad story, you will for sure have a few good cries but I find with so many books and tv shows, it's so hard to find something original and if you appreciate something different, this story is it.
