This book starts off fast with a memory of a flash flood and after that the stories from then on are just as intriguing as the first. It was hard to believe that these memories/stories happened because they are things that you just don't typically hear about today. Everyday I found myself telling my husband the recap of what I read. It reads like fiction and gives us the raw reality of what life was like in the southern United States in the time when horses were still favored over cars. I loved the way the narrator spoke. She wasn't rude or anything but she had that raw, tell it like it is with sprinkles of, I am assuming a regional dialect which included sayings and some words that you don't hear often, like instead of using the words scum bags she would say crumb bums. I recommend this book to those who enjoy true life stories, period pieces and reading about the wild west.
