What did I do?

Chapter 5

The party is in full swing, everybody is set in the mood. All the old men are rolling with the music and drinks in their hands talking about their businesses. All the ladies were sitting in a corner, bragging about their social statues and lifestyle, children were busy playing in the kid's corner and I, here now is making my way towards Mr. Augustine who looks serious and dangerous as always.

"Uncle Elijah?" I said quietly from behind. He is busy talking to some men with seriousness and arrogance instantly making me regret calling him due to the fear I have of him. He turns his face towards me and a small smile instantly arch on his face making me release a sigh of relief mentally.

"Oh Valarie, how are you? You have done some nice work here for the occasion." he said, as the little smile stayed the same way on his face making some of the men who were talking to him gasp after seeing this soft side of his personality. I never shocked myself as to how the man standing in front of me could change his moods in seconds or how his stoic face remains the same all 365 days of the year and still remain wrinkle free.

"Um, thank you uncle Elijah, it wasn't just me though, everybody here helped a lot. Actually, I was told by one of the workers that you called for me"? I instead asked him, directly coming to the point, not wanting to have a full-blown useless talk with now successful businessmen waiting for us to finish our conversation.

"Ah yes, a copy of today's speech is settled on my desk in my office, I hope you can get that for me. I have to make my presence on the stage in the next ten minutes." He said in his usual dictator voice but a little lowly, a little softly, just liked he always talked to me.

"Of course." with that said I made my way towards his office to get the file. His office is huge as I entered; I would never get over this room ever. From seeing how everything is placed here in such an organized and delicate manner. The wooden table at the end of the room gave a look of classiness, the statues, papers, files, and a bookshelf on the side with books in alphabetical order divulges discipline and orderliness from it. A small portrait of Mrs. Augustine is settled at the end of the desk. The lights are as bright as the moon showering its grace on the dark days, but right now only the light from the windows is supporting the dark room. Everything adjacent in this room vocalizes perfection and even if I am here for the 100th time, a word like wow will always come out of my mouth.

Just when I was in my trail of thoughts, I heard a scratchy sound coming from the front of the couch making me a little scared. If everybody is in the backyard and I am the only one present in the building, then who can it be? I let the horror movie side of me come out and did the only thing that came to my mind as instantly as it could. I grabbed a vase from one of the side table and held it against my head like I was going to shoot a home run.
