Chapter 59

Everybody looked at me with pale faces, their eyes telling a story that nobody wanted to listen but for me it is necessary. Necessary to listen what that poisonous person who made me live a life in fear, to know what happened to him after I lost consciousness.

"He-, Um Valarie He-" Maa started but gently was cut off by my father, his arms wrap around his shoulder in comfort.

"He is dead, sugarcake." My mouth instantly opened on this new fact. My eyes filled with shock and a bit of guilt. I know what he did was beyond what anyone with a sane mind could do but was the punishment of death really worth his action? Yes. Was I guilty that I was the catalyst to process his death? Maybe. But, should I feel the need to be dreadful and regret that he died after all the shit I have been through just because of his psychotic brain? Absolutely not. I won't let myself go through the feeling of negativity again just because of a person who initiated this whole process himself.

"How?" The firmness in my voice clearly wasn't a reaction everyone expected. They wanted me to cry and throw a fit but not something to be I guess, normal about it, though still, anything that happened right now is not a normal families shit, more of a soap opera. Before anyone could be prepared with an answer the preparator itself answered the truth.

"I killed him." Charlott's voice rang through the white walls and now was the cue to the reaction everybody was expecting me to showcase. Charlott's face was stoic, no remorse, no guilt, no cry for help, nothing, just her normal bitch face, much like Jace's.

"How Char, I mean-" Before I could continue, she stopped me when her eyes set on me. A look of softness rested in her eyes but then flew back quickly. I knew she had to show the emotionless Char in order to pass through this whole explanation.

"I want everybody to sit down for this, you know a part but not the full story. I would like to reveal everything. Once for all." She says in a much softer voice. Everybody complying quickly took their seats except for Mr. Homes. He was looking at his daughter with different emotions but most of that could be depicted easily was the feeling of the scare. He was scared and I was going to know why.

Charlott moves her head in the direction of Mr. Homes and passes him a small smile, moving towards him with small wobbly steps. This was the first time to see Charlott in such a vulnerable position and situation which makes my thoughts feel the dread of what's coming is something big and what nobody would expect. She reaches him and hugs him much to his surprise and looks up at him with teary eyes.

"I have to do this, Dad." The moment of surprise increase for all of us. Charlott never calls her father, Dad and once we asked her the reason she just shrugged and told us that she is not used to it. But the moment I saw the unshed tears in Mr. Homes's eyes I knew it was something he has been waiting to hear and that it was not just out of hobby but choice.
