little games, high stakes

I run through the corridors
My feet thudding against the metal floor
I have to get to the navigation chamber, I have to get to all the spots before it’s too late
They cannot win

I pass a friend, working hard on one of the elaborate tasks we have to do
She raises her head as she hears me coming, and smiles when she sees me
Hey buddy, where’ve you been?
But I run past
No time for chit-chat

I get to my destination and quickly do what I came to do
Panting, I lean against the wall and try to catch my breath
Suddenly, the siren starts blaring and my heart skips a beat
I think of her, and suddenly my legs give way and I barely steady myself with a chair

Next thing I know, I’m running wildy
I have to get to her, I don’t care about the meeting
I catch hold of my senses when I hear voices
I’m standing in the middle of a corridor, and panic climbs up the inside of my throat and starts strangling me
I look around and rush through the first door I see
I stumble inside blindly, and look to my left and right
For a second, I swear everything stops moving.
It’s unmistakably her, I can recognize her spacesuit
There’s a pool of blood around her head and I rush forward
Youcan’tbedeadyouabsolutelycannotbedead

They were upon me before I even realized it
I see a malicious smirk, and the glint of metal.
With a thud my body joins hers on the floor.
