"Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and shield. For our heart is glad in Him, because we trust in His holy name."

~Psalm 33:20-21 (ESV)

Comment:

I love the book of Psalms so much! When I am stressed, anxious, distressed, or just feel like giving the Lord all the praise that dwells in my heart, I turn to the Psalms. I can always find a verse that perfectly describes my current mindset. But what I love the most about the Psalms is the amount of repetition within the verses.

That repetition is in there for a reason. Have you noticed how many times in the Psalms it describes God as our rock, strength, refuge and shield? Have you noticed how many times the psalmist proclaims that he will trust in the Lord because he upholds the righteous and condemns the wicked? Now, grant it, there were times when the psalmist doubted and cried out for relief and rescue from his enemies, but we cannot forget the psalms of praise and worship!

Why can't we have as much faith and trust as the psalmist had? Why is it so hard to simply let go and give God full control? In times of rest and relaxation, the psalmist sung praises to the Lord, glorifying and uplifting His name for all that He had done. In times of war and sorrow, the psalmist cried out to the Lord for relief and rejuvenation. His focus was on the Lord at all times. He trusted in the Lord at all times. Why can't we do the same? Our society may be vastly different from what it was back then. Our problems may be different from what they were back then, but God is still the same. We can trust that God will handle our problems no matter what they consist of.
