"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go!"

~Joshua 1:9

Comment:

Moses has died and Joshua has taken command over the people of Israel. They are preparing to take the land that God has promised to them. But here's something interesting. If you read the entirety of Joshua 1, you might notice how often the Lord tells the people (through Joshua) to be strong and courageous. He commanded them not to let fear take over but rather to remember that God is with them wherever they went. He would give them the strength to fight and possess the land.

I think this chapter contains a message we all would do well to benefit from. So many times we catch ourselves falling prey to the clutches of fear and anxiety and we don't pause to take the Words of God to heart. Just look at it this way. God promised to give Israel a new land but as it turned out, this land had giants residing in it. I'm sure the Israelites were scared out of their wits. I mean, how would you feel if you found out you had to fight a people who were about six feet taller than you? But God reminded them (once again) that His might was bigger than any giants of the land. He told them to be strong and courageous and fight on, reminding them that He would be right beside them and never leave them.

We must remember this as well. God's might is much bigger than any modern-day giants that come our way. We must be bold as we stand up with the Lion of Judah as our ally. We must be strong and courageous as we march into battle against our enemies, arming ourselves with the armor of God and the sword of the spirit! When we fight with the strength and courage of God, we will not lose!
