Chapter 7: Too Important to lose

Legosi made it back to the dorm and saw that Jack was nowhere in sight. Instead he found Durham and Miguno playing one of the hyena's racing games.

"There you are Legosi, where have you been all day?" Miguno questioned with a smile.

Durham put a hand to the hyena's shoulder, nodded knowingly to him and then looked to the wolf, "Glad you're here, we've been wanting to talk to you for a while."

"Hey guys, sorry I'm late," the wolf apologised. "I'm sorry Durham, but I need to find Jack. Can we talk later?"

The coyote walked over to him, "That's actually what we wanted to talk about. What is going on with you two?

Legosi put his hands up, "Nothing's going on Durham, we just haven't had much time to hang out... That's all."

"It's more than that!" Miguno barked angrily as he stood up. "Legosi, I don't know what's up, but I don't like it. "You know me man, I'm quick with a joke and having a laugh. I like cheering you guys up when you're down, and I'm admittedly kind of oblivious when things are tense around here, but this is different! Whatever is happening to you guys is making me and Durham worried."

Durham spoke up, "He's right. You and Jack used to be as thick as thieves and now you can't or won't even look at each other." The coyote shook his head, "That's not all, you and Jack keep coming home late, you show up when he's gone or vice versa, Jack won't talk to us and now even Collet is keeping secrets. Legosi, whatever is happening, whatever issue you guys have, it's not just your problem anymore, it's affecting all of us and it's scary." Durham looked down, his ears and tail drooping, "We've known each other for years. We've been like a family and I don't want us drifting apart like this."

Legosi's eyes widened. He was so preoccupied with worrying about Jack, as well as trying to deal with his own feelings that he never stopped to think about how his other roommates felt. "Durham I...I'm so sorry," The wolf's ears folded backwards, his tail becoming lifeless. "I was so busy attempting to figure out what was going on with Jack, that I never noticed what was happening to you guys. God! I am such a bad friend! All this time and I didn't even realize what was going on," Legosi said as he pressed his back against the wall, covering his face with his hands.

Miguno walked over and pulled the wolf into a small hug, Durham quickly joining them. "It's ok Legosi, you're not a bad friend," the hyena reassured. "It's just that... we don't like feeling like strangers to the animals who are so important to us. You guys mean a lot to us and we just don't want to lose you is all."

Legosi felt his heart sink. He couldn't believe the things Miguno was saying. Things must have been truly awful for this jokester hyena to talk like this.

Durham released the two canines from his grip. He turned to Legosi and smiled, "You know Legosi, believe it or not, there was a time when we told each other everything. We promised we'd be there for each other when things got rough. So please Legosi, talk to us, and just tell us what's been going on."

"OK, I'll tell you what I can," Legosi answered. "But you might want to sit down, this is kind of a long story."

The two smaller canines nodded and sat at the table, waiting to hear the wolf's tale. Legosi sat down and started recollecting everything, minus what happened at the fountain. He told them about the immense guilt he's been feeling since the cafeteria fight, he explained what was happening at the club and why he's been out so late. Legosi also told them how he could tell that Jack had been getting bullied, and explained what happened today and how it was Kai who helped him realize that he had to confront Jack if they were ever going to get better.

"Wow, that's a lot to take in," Durham said as he was taken aback by Legosi's story.

"DAMN IT, WHAT THE HELL!?!" Miguno yelled out in frustration, smashing his fist onto the table. "No wonder you two have been so miserable! I mean how in the hell did we not notice something this messed up?!"
