Let me tell a little story
About the star that couldn't shine or blink

AS the wind blew in from the open windows, the young teenager sighed with weariness.

The orphan and her aunt had been on the road for many days, only stopping to refuel, eat or sleep. After hearing her niece's sigh, Emma Rivers removed her left hand from the steering wheel, and placed it comfortingly around her, while keeping her eyes purely on the road ahead of her.

As the wind brushed in between the branches of the trees, the adolescent girl watched as the trees seemed to laugh as the wind passed through their individual branches; smaller saplings stood as tall as they could from behind the shrubbery that coated the forest floor, seemed to wave as the vehicle passed by them.

The music playing from the young teenagers earphones rang clear through the silent and small space. However, that soon came to an end once there was a break in the wall of Evergreen trees; Trixie's hazel-green eyes were met with a beautiful scene, so beautiful that she has to continuously tap her aunts' shoulder in order to get her to stop. Emma Rivers simply chuckled at her niece's enthusiasm, and pulled over.

The second the car came to a safe stop, Trixie immediately hauled her camera out of her backpack which sat at her feet, and clambered out of the door.

Ripping her earphones out of her ears, the girl simply took a moment to relish in the thunderous sound of the waterfall that fell before her. After her senses were satisfied, she lifted her camera to her eye and took the picture, freezing time permanently in pixels on the small screen.

As she inspected the quality of her photo, she grinned happily, and skipped back towards the car where her aunt happily watched, her hopes that her niece would thrive here increasing as they got further to their destination.

As the Rivers girl clambered back into the car, Emma Rivers turned to her niece, giving her a look that made Trixie go on edge, she knew that look all too well.

Emma sighed, before finally cutting off the engine, the car giving out a final, but loud, purr as it went to sleep. Trixie's eyes never focused on any one thing, she was nervous. Many scenarios going through her head about what this conversation was about to be based on.

With a final sigh, Emma faced fully, giving her full attention to her still panicking niece. Emma reached over and clasped her niece's hands with her own, cold skin meeting even colder ones.

" Thank you.." Emma started, her blue eyes meeting the familiar hazel ones of her niece, "For doing this, I can only hope that this will be a fresh, new start for the both of us."

Tears began to sting the back of Emma's eyes, and Trixie resisted the urge to roll her eyes, her aunt had always been very sensitive to the smallest of thing, even crying when Beatrice had bought her own camera and spent the day trying it out, claiming how proud of her sister's daughter Emma truly was, "I know that ever since your f-father, well, you know, passed on, we haven't really talked, so, thank you for doing this with me and, I'm here Trixie," Emma using the preferred name to show her sincerity, "I'm always going to be here, please know that, no matter what."

After her speech, silence enveloped the car one again. Neither one speaking, letting the words that the older woman had just thrown out sink in.

Emma was waiting for some sort of reaction of her niece. Trixie however, wanted to give her aunt a reaction which suited the situation, but she physically or mentally couldn't, the girl didn't know which.

Her past made sure of that, her past experiences had formed the girl, who was sat in front of her aunt, the girl who so desperately wanted to give her heart to her now legal guardian, like she had just done to Trixie. But she just couldn't, her body was void of any emotion what so ever. Trixie had been numb, for so long, that she couldn't even remember what it was like to feel a specific emotion.
