When Andrea walked into the living room with after Alex she saw Schneider talking to Elena
"Oh, no is Schneider doing that kids at risk talk to get Elena to have a Quinces?" said Andrea
"Yeah, how do you know about that?"Asked Penelope
"I got a similar talk" Andrea shrugged "anyway Mami eve's coming over soon"
"ooh I missed her," said the single mother" she always helps out and she's not even my kid"
then when Schneider came back from failing to talk to Elena Penelope decided to give it a try
"you know what captain debater, let's debate this, but we're not doing a regular debate. it's gotta be that thing I saw you do where we argue the opposite side to better understand each other." said the mother
"you mean a Lincoln-Douglas debate? My specialty?" Elena shot back
then eve came through the door
"Hello Alvarez's, and Schneider, oh and he was standing outside the door," said eve
I went to say hi to eve while also trying to see who was behind her
"Hey guys eve let me in, even though she doesn't live here," said the tall boy who I recognized as Luca, Alex's best friend
"hey Alex"
"hey Luca" then they did their little handshake
but then we all focused back onto Elena and Penelope
by the time we came back the mom's earrings were off which meant all hell breaks loose. then we all jumped on the couch getting really into the showdown between Mami and Elena.
Penelope did her little dance while we all got our cheering game prepared
Elena began "The issue before us is quinces or no quinces, okay"
Elena took her glasses off and said "so I'm you"
Elena began you throw her shoulders back "mmm, listen kid! Quince is just about the village celebrating that you're woman, which I know you know 'cause your the smartest one in the family!"
Penelope laughs "oh, I got better moves than that, right?" she questioned
everyone on the couch looked at her and said "eh"
Elena continued
"but the village isn't literal. it just means your family and your friends. so, what's so bad about this modern village, coming together to celebrate you?" She shimmies her shoulders again
"oh! yeah she's good"
"ooh go, Elena"
they all cheer
"oh, my money's on her, you guys wanna start takin' bets?" he pauses
"Actually, scratch that. I'm addicted to gambling" he finishes
"Okay now ill be you," says Penelope while walking up to Elena and grabbing her glasses and beanie and putting them on and then she began imitating Elena
"Oh, my god! do you even hear yourself? seriously!, you're argument that my adulthood has to be approved by your friends?, Pass!" then she looks at everyone on the couch waiting for a reaction
"well, I'm not gonna clap for that" Exclaims the Cuban grandmother "agreed" Both eve and Andrea say, the single mother looks forward again then in a Spanish accent Elena says
"so you want to crush my heart into little pieces, after I worked so hard to give you an opportunity, in this land of the free and home of brave?"Elena concludes
"that's not me that's her" Penelope points to Lydia
"you make me sound like a have an accent," says Lydia
"oh Lydia," says Luca
then Elena clears her throat "let's end this. Elena, you wrecked your first communion because, as a vegetarian, you wouldn't eat the body of Christ. you even refused to take pictures with Santa because your Abuelita wouldn't admit that Christmas is a pagan ritual."
"Jesus and Santa were cousins everybody knows this" Lydia points out while the kids look at her confused
Elena continues "So when it comes to your quinces I'm pleading with you. cant you do thing one thing for your mother who loves you?"
Penelope steps up "Okay mum, ill do it" everyone gasps "Wait, what!" screams Elena
"I'm saying you win!" Penelope as Elena concludes while taking off the glasses and putting them back on Elena "you should have a quince like you just proved" everyone laughs and cheers for Penelope
"Dang! Mami set you up" yells Alex "wow! didn't know you had it in you, Ms Alvarez," says Luca "Woah! Mami you got game"Yella Andrea while eve just sits there in shock
"I didn't realise how right I was. she said a bunch of stuff I didn't even think of!" then high fives Alex "Mami, atretes" Lydia hands the mother her earings back
"Okay, this was stupid! I'm still not having a quinces" says Elena
"oh, god, just accept it. you're Cuban, you're 15, your gonna have a big party, with a poofy dress and a bad photo. It's what we do" Penelope concludes
Elena began yelling in Spanish and stormed off, everyone looks around shocked while the room goes silent until Lydia breaks it
"she can speak Spanish" then Andrea and Alex grab their friend and go to their separate rooms.
