Almost two weeks had passed since Annette moved in with her Aunt Monique, each day seeming to be duller and duller as there wasn't anything very interesting going on. She had tried to keep her interactions with her aunt to simple ones, only really speaking to the woman when she was spoken to. Annette had been keeping quiet about her revolutionary ideas, after all, she had made quite a mess the first night and she was not looking to make her aunt any angrier.

The girl had just awoken to find that the weather was lovely, with only a few clouds in the sky, outside of the house she could hear an assortment of birds singing in the early morning, bringing a smile to her face as she remembered the birds that would always sing outside her bedroom window in Paris.

She quickly got out of her bed, got dressed and headed to the small desk that was rested against the wall, it had already been filled with all the books and journals that Annette had brought with her. She had not yet been able to send any letters to Paris, however, she had been secretly writing them in a journal that she had brought with her, making sure to keep them all safe for when she eventually found a way to mail them.

As she drew on her journal, something that she had been doing quite a lot recently to keep her mind off of everything that was happening, she heard the door of her room open slightly, saying a faint come in, she watched as the door opened wider to reveal her cousin Léo, who was looking at her with an uncomfortable smile.

"Léo" Annette spoke softly, quickly closing her book and motioning for him to come over to where she was "good morning, what is it?"

"Mother was wondering if you would go downstairs" he replied slowly, scratching the back of his neck "she said that she needed to talk to you about something"

"Oh, do you know what it is?" she asked quietly "I'm not in trouble am I? Because if she's at all angry at me she could just send me back to Paris where I won't be a burden anymore"

"I'm sure that she just wants to tell you something simple, no need to worry" he said with a comforting smile, motioning for her to follow him, which she did.

Over the past two weeks, Léo had warmed up to Annette, being a bit more welcoming, although she expected that it was just because he felt sorry for her, nonetheless, she was glad that her two cousins did not treat her with the same hostility as their mother did.

As she followed him into the sitting room, she saw that her aunt was seated on the couch, staring at the window, already dressed in a beautiful blue dress. Annette saw as her cousin quickly scurried out of the room.
