Chapter 1

"It's not fair they denied me, just because my English is not 'proper'" Reńee pouted

Reńee has been living in America since she was 14, she is originally from France, her parents gave her up at the age 7, her mother was a crack whore and her father was an abusive drunk who beat her every chance he got, last she heard was they were dead

She was mistreated at the orphanage, being the only black girl that was until she turned 14, there was a program that orphans got to come to America for a better chance at life, she was the first in her orphanage to sign up

When she got to America, she barely spoke English and couldn't understand anyone, that was until she met her best friend, Sophia, Columbian girl who is the same age as Reńee

Whenever Reńee needed her she was always there, they consider each other family, they went through high school together and college, always there to push each other even farther

Now living together, Reńee couldn't find a job after she went to school to become a Nurse, nobody wanted to take her, they simply couldn't understand her

"It's alright, y'all find a job that's suitable for you" Sophia said trying to comfort the girl in the basket of the cart, they were shopping for groceries

They lived in a generally small town, it was a lot of old couples who children was out of the house

"I know but it's just, I worked so hard on perfecting my English, just to get turned down at every hospital" she says biting her lip "maybe this is Dieu telling me that being a nurse isn't it"
(Translation: God)

She thought she would at least get school nurse, she was Valedictorian for crying out loud

A little old lady comes up and says "I'm sorry, I was ease dropping on your conversation" she says with an Italian accent laughing "I know someone who is hiring"

She sits up at the words hiring "oh Continuez s'il vous plaît" she says eagerly
(Translation: oh please continue) the old lady just looks at her

"She said please continue" Sophia said looking at the different kinds of beans

"Oh si" the lady says laughing "It's a babysitter gig, you have to stay at the house and you have to be highly qualified"

She looks to Sophia

Who's kid needs to be watched by someone highly qualified

"deberías ir a por ello" Sophia says in Spanish
(Translation: you should go for it)

Sophia and Reńee have this thing, they can totally understand each other in their native language, they just can't speak it

They have been doing this for years, they learned understand each other

So Sophia knows French by ear and Reńee knows Spanish by ear, it was just something fun they do

"I um guess, who do I have to speak too about it" Reńee says

The old lady digs in her purse and gives her a card that has a name and number on it

Ok this looks professional

"Be sure to tell him that Rosa recommended you" she says smiling "ok bye girls" they both waved to the old lady who name is Rosa
