It was a warm evening, the night sky was darker as ever: stars shined like small fireflies, the moon was so bright that illuminated the city like daylight. It felt peaceful as ever.
The storm of the day made the sky even cleaner and only a few dark clouds obscured the it.
Ririka was watching the sky through her window, thinking about the events of the day that passed.
Her eyes were following the lines of a book page but she didn't really read them, instead, all she could focus on was Y/n.What did she feel? Are they friends or more? Even Y/n seemed to like Ririka more than other people, but was it love or simply respect? What was it? And did she liked Y/n back?
Her mind was fogged with thoughts of the situation, only the slam of the door managed to pierce the clouds in her mind, 'waking' her up.
Her father was at the door, clearly drunk, his eyes were unfocused and a faint reddish tone on his cheeks."Why is it that you are so worthless?" he asserted while looking at his daughter as a piece of garbage.
"Kirari has everything: beauty, cunning intelligence, the potential to become the perfect leader of the Hundred Devouring Clan. What do you have, huh? You are just the meaningless shadow of your own sister."
He lowered his head before snapping back up, his eyes dark.
"You disgust me."Ririka was on the verge of crying, she tried to hold back her tears but failed, resulting in a hopeless cry.
"My god, you are far the most stupid human being I've ever seen. I shouldn't have let you live, I should've killed you the moment you came out of the womb"."Shut up father."
Kirari had come into the room, her eyes glowed blue and she had an emotionless expression on her face: now one, not even their parents, could fully understand what Kirari was thinking, but to Ririka, who knew her better than everyone, it was crystal clear.
Kirari was furious.
"Huh? Who are you to talk to me like that? You're just my daughter" he replied without fear.
Kirari gritted her teeth behind her lips and leaned closer to the old man ears."You talk to her like she's the failure of the family but you're forgetting about yourself. If she's lacking confidence, it's all your fault.
Maybe you should just shut the fuck up, old man."He looked surprised by his daughter determination but he didn't waste any time and raised his fist in the air, attempting to slap Kirari.
She grabbed his wrist before he could smack her, her eyes started to glow even more than before and she looked at him, piercing him right in his soul."I wouldn't do that if I were you, father. We both know that I'm the most suitable for being the next clan leader, even more than yourself. You have no right to harm me. I will become the next leader and do whatever I desire. But the most important thing..."
She leaned closer to her father face and whispered
"...touch a single hair on my sister's head and I will kill you. I have the power to do so."
He looked terrified, he scoffed and walked away from the scene.
"Kirari..." Ririka continued crying while looking at her sister.
Kirari's eyes were still full of rage, but they softened when she saw Ririka's helpless state. She closed the distance between her sister and herself, leaning closer and hugging her."Don't worry Riri. I will forever protect you. You're my dear sister after all." she finished and kissed Ririka's forehead.
"Don't doink too much about him, he wasn't in a clear state of mind. Now go take a shower and relax."
Now Ririka was alone in the room, she looked at the floor and take a deep breath. She took some clean clothes and headed to the shower.
She stripped herself and went into the shower. The water hit her head and fell down her body, cleaning her.
She had a mourning expression on her face, her eyes were gloomy. Now, she was lost in that familiar void she experienced right before cutting herself. All around her was black.
She was about to reach for the shaver but before the blade could cut her skin, an image of Y/n, clenching her clothes near her heart appeared in her mind: she was crying out to Ririka.
Ririka came back from her void, gasping for air."No...I don't want Y/n to cry..."
She fell to her knees hugging herself"No Y/n, please... forgive me I won't do anything weird. I still want to see you...Don't cry.... I don't want you to cry for somine as worthless as me."
The rest of the shower was silent, she took a towel and put it on herself before slowly walking out of the bathroom to her room.
"Ah, Riri!"
Kirari called her, she had a steaming cup of tea in her hand: the liquid was a dark green colour, it radiated steam around itself."I prepared a cup of tea, matcha tea, your favourite! I know it is supposed to drink a certain amount but I felt generous today." Kirari smiled widely at her sister, trying to hide her concern.
"Thanks, Kiri..."
"I'll leave it on your desk, drink it before it gets cold."
With that, Kirari left Ririka alone again.
After that, Ririka exhaled relieved: she managed to hide her scars from Kirari, who know how her sister would react if she saw them.
The towel dropped onto the ground leaving Ririka naked in her room, her skin was brightened by the moonshine.
She looked down at her body: on her stomach, there was an outline constellation of scars; her legs were full of slim little red scars.
Ririka was scared enough of her sister so she optioned to only cut the portion of skin that she was able to hide with her clothes. She heard her phone buzzing, the number on the screen read
'Y/n-san🌼'"Hey, Riri? Are you okay?"
"Yeah...why?"
"Well, you usually reply immediately to my messages and for an hour or so you didn't respond..."
"Oh yeah, I'm sorry I didn't respond..."
"That's alright, I was just worried about you Ririka, I'm glad to know that you're okay!"
A flashback of what occurred in the bathroom came to Ririka's mind, she felt hot tears ran over her cheeks.
"Riri?! Are you crying?"
Ririka couldn't voice her thoughts and could only sob. For a good minute, she continued crying and sobbing uncontrollably, the other line of the call was silent.
"Y-Y-Y/n ple-ease...c-continue to talk... Your v-voice calms m-me..."
"Oh okay!" Y/n replied with"Hmh... Today after we played Animal Crossing I couldn't sleep so I texted you! I played the new Resident Evil Village (even if it was past midnight)! Y'know there is a TALL vampire lady, she's like 2 meters tall, everyone on the Internet is going CrAAAzyyyyy over her. It's because she has BOOBIES! Then I was attacked by a strange wolf-like creature and there was this chilling death sequence and I got scared! Oh, then I got this new book and..."
Somehow hearing Y/n rambling about the most random tthings made Ririka smile and chuckle while listening to the h/c girl voice, it sounded soft but a bit hoarse, she made all kind of funny things while she talked."... Hey ya feeling better?"
"Yeah..." Ririka's voice came shaky but she had also small little laughs mixed in. The nervousness had melted off and her heart fluttered in joy by hearing Y/n."Y/n?"
"Yeah?"
Ririka watched the moon, thinking of want to say: the night was still as beautiful as before but it became colder, only then she realized that during the call she was still naked. A faint blush appeared on her cheeks but disappeared as soon as her eyes landed on the portion of flesh she was about to cut in the shower. The flashback of Y/n crying resurfaced in her mind. That reminded her of what she wanted to say to Y/n.
"Thank you... Thank you for saving me."
"...you are welcome?"
Ririka inhaled and started speaking again. She wore a happy smile on her lips."Thank you for being my friend".
