The email came the next morning. I slipped on some dark wash skinny jeans, a hunter green shirt, and my Sperrys. All I had to do was eat my pop tarts and put my hair in a ponytail and I was done.

Stepping out of my dorm, I opened up the email.

CONGRATULATIONS! The varsity team was picked and YOU are on it! You, along with LUKE KELLY and BRANDON TELLHARK are on the team! Come to my office for congratulations cupcakes at your earliest convenience!

I couldn't believe it! I had made it onto the team with the two best riders in the school! Just then Brianna stormed up to me.

"What is this?!" She yelled, showing me the recognition email. "Why did you win but I didn't?" I walked past her, snorting.

"Maybe, because I'm better than you." I couldn't believe it. I had just yelled at the most popular girl in school. And it felt amazing. I continued walking to the stable, excited and nervous. When I got there, I saw Luke and Mr. S eating their cupcakes, while Brandon just had his coffee. I sat down, ad wordlessly took a chocolate cupcake.

"Congratulations to all of you! I expect you to be a team, which means I expect you o behave like it during and not during practices. It would be a good thing if you all met up one night soon and learned more about each other. You have practice today, so come around 1:00ish. Congratulations again! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go start the barn up this morning since one of our grooms is sick." He left, leaving the three of us alone.

"So, how's it going with everyone?" Luke asked, trying to start some sort of conversation. Brandon looked at him, not answering. "No? Okay, let's try a different question."

"Let's try no." Brandon replied harshly, taking out his phone. Sigh. This was going to be real fun. If you can imagine two five year old boys fighting over something, then you are seeing something more mature than what was happening right now. I just pushed my chair out from under me, stoop up, and walked towards the door. Brandon looked at me. "Where are you going?" He asked, curious.

"Back to my dorm hall, where people actually talk to each other." I responded, giving each boy a look before walking out. "You two have fun playing the quiet game." I closed the door and walked back to my dorm, throwing the cupcake away in the nearest trash can. My phone buzzed, and I pulled it out of my back pocket only to see a text from Luke.

$$ Hey, it's Luke, I'm really sorry. That kid just gets on my nerves okay? I made an effort. He didn't. It's not my fault he doesn't want to be on the team.$$

$$ Hey Luke! And no prob, I don't know why he doesn't seem to like you. You don't seem like toooo bad of a guy$$

$$ Awww thanks sweetheart I think that's the best compliment I'll ever get.$$

$$ Okay Mr. Sarcasm. I'm leaving now. $$

And I ignored his and possibly Brandon's texts from that point on.
