Chapter Twenty

The tension between Marcus and Seth was suffocating Paige, they hadn’t gone any further with their conversation, but she could see it wasn’t over, and whatever it was about Seth wanted answers. Seth’s hands were clenching on to the steering wheel, and she could see he was really struggling to contain his anger.

She sat forward trying to stop the numbness that was seeping through her legs, they had been driving for hours, but as she was about to ask where they were going they pulled onto a dirt track. Seth didn’t slow down as he drove down the track and Paige winced at every bump and ditch they went over as it sent painful shocks through her already aching body.

When the car came to a stop outside a tree she looked at him in confusion, “Why have we stopped here?”

“We’re here.” He told her, getting out of the car, Marcus followed him, and she watched as he walked over to the tree and muttered something.

To her amazement a little cottage appeared in the clearing between the trees, she rubbed her eyes, she clearly had not had enough sleep, but it was still there and Seth was turning around and striding back over to the car.

“Come on,” he demanded, opening the door and huffing.

The old hag she was expecting to see wasn’t there though, the woman looked no older than she did. She smiled at Seth and Paige, but looked at Marcus with disgust, a look that Marcus returned.

Paige followed Seth and Celina inside the cottage, he had to duck down to get into the tiny cottage, and again she was amazed it looked the size of a shed from the outside, but inside was as big as a house.

“It’s a spell,” Seth told her noticing that she looked confused, “I told you it was safe here.”

There was no safer place than the witches cottage, it could only been seen by certain people, Seth being one of them and that was only because he was friends with Celina. There was no way Ipes or Isabella would ever be able to find it.

Celina offered Paige a warm drink and she jumped at the chance to have something to drink .She took the steaming cup of coffee from Celina and smiled.

“I’ve made some a stew would you like some?” Celina asked with a kind smile.

She realised she was staring when Seth nudged her, she couldn’t help it she didn’t understand how Seth had to come to know the woman they were complete opposites of each other. Celina seemed so kind and nice, and Seth well he was a moody, angry piece of work most of the times.

“Yeah she will have some, it smells disgusting, but what do I know?” he said with a smirk.

Celina raised her eyebrows at his comment, and a chuckle from the door had them all turning around. Paige wondered whether they were in any danger from the man that was smiling at them all. He was about Seth’s height and he looked intimidating as his broad body filled the doorway.

“Nixon sit down you’re making the place look untidy,” Celina scolded, “Paige this is my son Nixon.”

Nixon walked into the cottage and went straight to Paige, ignoring the two vampires that were sitting on the sofa, “You can call me Nix, it’s only my mom that calls me Nixon.”
