"You're going to learn to listen!"
As Hana heard her father's last spoken words, she felt like her life was flashing before her eyes, her body sinking into the water. The first time her dad taught her how to ride a bike. When she broke her arm and her mom came into the hospital room with a big teddy bear. The look on her parents' faces when she walked down the stairs in a prom dress she had made herself, they were stunned.
Then, came the bad memories. The night she peeked into her dad's study, seeing a few men around a table. She hadn't realized what they were doing until she found out later he had been gambling. Her dad saw her looking inside, so he stormed over and took a hold of her wrist tightly. "Go to sleep. Now."
Don't get it wrong, reader. Hana had jumped perfectly into the water, but she didn't realize until now that was one of her fears. It reminded her of that one night; the night she, too, almost died along with her parents. If it weren't for Natalie's dad...
Suddenly, her eyes fluttered open in the water to see a splash along with someone swimming towards her. It felt as though her body were frozen and she could barely even keep her mouth shut so the water wouldn't invade her lungs. She knew that feeling all too well.
