"Your correspondent is unavailable for the moment. Please call back or leave a message after the beep sound. Thank you."
Discouraged, Mark let the dial tone fade into nothingness and hung up worriedly. Gun still wasn't responding. He had turned off his phone several hours ago, making him unreachable. Inaccessible. And with the passing hours, Mark had felt more and more nervous and upset. He dared not imagine what was facing his lover at this moment. Nor the feelings that assailed him. Even if he had a good idea. Because at the other end of town, he himself was going through a similar situation.
The day had started so well. And the dream was turning into nightmare. All because of a photo posted on the net. But what a photo ! A compromising image for their reputation and their career. All this because of deceitful photographers eager for sensations and devoid of feelings.
Yet at this moment, Mark didn't want to worry about his future professional. Of his image with fans, his relatives, or the rest of the world. All he had in mind was Gun and the feelings that must be persecuting him at this time.
His lack of response was a clear indication that the musician was dealing with the situation as he himself had to. He regretted not being with his eldest friend to help improve the situation. To justify. Apologize.
Although he knew that it would make Gun angry and even more miserable. Mark was probably the person he least wanted to see. And that made him sad.
"Dammit, dammit, dammit !" Mark swore discouragedly after giving up his relentlessness to contact his elder. He put his phone away, letting his thoughts poison his mind and alter his rationality.
An incessant - but nonetheless not insignificant - fear that Gun would hold a grudge against him for the whole situation kept him from remaining calm. Justified. Gun spent his time running away. To push him away. To be afraid. To build barriers to prevent him from entering and reaching him. He barricaded his heart and his emotions behind an impassable concrete wall to avoid suffering. Mark had looked for a crack in this barricade and had slipped into it. For what result...?
Byt the way, Gun wasn't the only one scared. Mark had the same feelings. Because he couldn't express his feelings. He feared rejection. Disgust. He feared Gun would put some distance between them until he was just a shadow on the board. Insignificant... And that's what had led them to this predicament. The fear of hurting the other made them both suffer today. The worst-case scenario presented itself to them. The one in which his eldest found himself alone to face a situation that hurt him. Alone, against the world.
"Okay Mark, I organized a little live talk for you to express yourself in two days. I'm counting on you to think of a way to calm things down", his agent announced dryly, coming back to his office where Mark was patiently waiting under his recommendation.
