similar to how a small bird might feel trapped in a golden cage, evianna was caged in by the confines of her own mind. there was enough room to stretch her wings and perhaps give a half-hearted flit, but what good what come of it if not only to remind her she couldn't fly away?

the many corridors and rooms of the palace gave her quite the opposite feeling; they were vast and open, yet hardly inhabited. it reminded evianna of a maze—you had many paths and the open sky to give you company, and yet the longer you'd wander the more lost you'd become, a broken promise of an ending the only thing to cling to.

the selected would be assigned tasks each week. the thought made evianna want to laugh, along with the wording in the letter she'd found on her nightstand. it was clear the royal family viewed the selection as a competition, which did amuse her. hopefully none of the girls went wild over it.

the dates. evianna hadn't been very surprised at the choice of the next event, and with little interaction with either of the princes paired with her unwillingness to reveal herself at the ball, it would be an opportunity to present herself however she pleased. the woman had been assigned the crown prince—prince callahan. where was she to begin? she had little knowledge of his hobbies or what he enjoyed.
