─ ailiseu most commonly goes by the name iris, simply because it is still tied to her given name, and is much easier to pronounce for those who aren't fluent in korean.
(in korean the last name precedes the first, so her given name is ailiseu and her family name is ahn)

iris comes from a culturally rich area of oskus. it's considered to be a formal (uniformed) region. her area is heavily influenced by korean culture and tradition. it is also quite modernized in physical structure.

in her culture, they consider the time in the womb one year of living; when they are born, they are one year old. her people don't celebrate their birthdays; in fact, they don't believe that they turn a year older on their birthdays. all of her people turn a year older on new years day. to those who don't share her culture, she would be considered to be twenty years of age.

driven by a desire to grow in knowledge and her vision of success, iris is easily one of the most determined and hardworking people you'll ever meet. if she wants something she'll do nearly everything in her power to get it; she's certainly a self-starter. while most people associate apathy with a lust for power, iris is quite the opposite; she's too empathetic for her own good. she seeks validation─if she were the most powerful person in the world but no one praised her for it, she would feel unsatisfied. needless to say, she's a focused woman. in terms of creativity, iris is highly skilled. with a strong sense of musicality and a natural talent called 'perfect pitch' (the ability to identify what any note is right when it is played and sing any note at the perfect pitch without having to find it) iris has composed a few pieces. she also has a good sense of what her style is. iris a planner and organizer; she knows just what questions to ask and what needs to be done to bring and event together. one of her greatest flaws is that she is an overthinker. being as observant as she is, it's common for her to draw her own conclusions of things and make assumptions. it's a habit she'd like to break, but ultimately struggles with.

ailiseu was born to ahn chan-mi and ahn dae-seong. she was an only child, as after she was born her mother developed secondary infertility and could no longer bear children. both of her parents were confucianists, while ailiseu chose not to take to a religion. she got along with both her parents fairly well, though she always had a stronger bond with her aunt, ahn areum. though she loved her community and culture strongly, she couldn't help but feel boxed in by some of the traditions. after taking on multiple jobs and making a good living for herself, ailiseu began to travel around the provinces at just eighteen (seventeen to those who don't fullow the korean views of age). as she first began to travel, she realized it was difficult for some to pronounce her given name and started to identify as iris to avoid any more difficulties. ailiseu loved being able to explore different areas of nightingale and learn about the other cultures and beliefs. it allowed her to grow as and individual. for the few months leading up to the selection, iris has been staying with her family in oskus. her aunt was the one who encouraged her to join, and
