4 || I'm Sorry

It's been 24 hours since Elizabeth was asked to go on a mission with Bucky. Alone.

She never gave them an answer. After Natasha decided to ask her, she ran to her room and locked it. She hasn't been out since.

Knock knock.

"Who is it?"

"It's Bucky."

Elizabeth quickly turns her attention to the door. What?! She shuts her journal and opens the door. "Yes?"

Before saying anything he walks in and sits on her bed, folding his hands, leaning forward, staring at the floor. "I really need you to do this with me. HYDRA has intel on all of us that can destroy us from the inside out. They know more about us than we know about each other."

Elizabeth shuts the door and sits at her desk chair, facing Bucky. "Why me?"

He avoids eye contact. "HYDRA has no idea you exist and they don't know I'm on the team." He pauses and looks up at her. "Please. I'll train you. I'll protect you. I promise nothing will happen to you, Elizabeth."

Tears start to flood her eyes as she stares into his. "How can I trust someone who killed my own parents?"

Elizabeth's broken voice almost breaks him.

"I'm sorry."

—2 Hours Later—

Once Bucky said sorry, Elizabeth couldn't help but feel bad for the ex- assassin who put her family through hell. She still hated him. But, she decided to do the mission. Not for him but for her brother and the team. Her family.

After arriving at the compound, Bucky guided Elizabeth to the boxing ring in the training room. The room was huge. There were screens, dumbbells, punching bags (mainly for Steve), targets for archery and shooting guns, and so many other things the Avengers use to train. And in the room behind the door to the left was a simulator that the team never shuts up about.

Bucky gently takes her left hand as she flinches at his cold, metal touch. He notices her action and switches hands, wrapping her hand with his right hand.?"I don't need this, I could just use my hands." She chuckles.

Bucky glances at her, starting to quickly yet carefully, unwrap her hand. Once she gets in the rink, Bucky follows her.

This is going to be easy. Natasha and Happy had been training Elizabeth ever since Nat made the team and Happy got his job. Tony only ever taught her how to shoot and she was pretty great at it.

Right foot out, left foot back, fist guarding her face. "Come at me." She smiles.

And he does. His right fist moves her way as she catches it. Twisting it to the left she wraps her legs around his neck and pins him down. Pulling her right hand back in a fist she aims for his face until she's pulled out from her trans.

"Liz!" Natasha screams across the room.

Her fist weakens. Turning back at Nat then back at Bucky she realizes what she wanted to do. She didn't want to hurt him. She wanted to kill him. Elizabeth wanted to kill Bucky for what he put her family through.

She didn't move, she just stared at Bucky and he stared at her without fear but with gloom.

"I- I'm sorry." Is all she said before Natasha took her hands and helped her up.

Bucky didn't move as Nat took Elizabeth to the shooting range on the other side of the room.

"I'm not going to pretend to understand how you feel towards Bucky but for what it's worth, the person who hurt your family is gone, Liz." Nat stopped and looked at Elizabeth, sincerely.

All she does is stare at Bucky who was in the same position. "Let's just get this training over with."

"If you don't want to train today, we don't have to Liz. You don't even have to go on this mission we could think of something else or I could ev-"

"Stop it." Elizabeth cut off Natasha with a chuckle. "I'll be fine. Bucky promised he'll protect me." She stopped and took a deep breath. "I guess it's time to find out if the ex-assassin is worthy of his promises."
