"Now remember what I said... if he tries and-" "Reiner." You rolled your eyes as you turned away from the mirror and looked at your brother. "It's Jean. You know him. Now leave me alone so I can finish getting ready." You shoed him away as you slipped your feet into your sneakers.
It was already beginning to get dark outside once the knocking began at the front door. "He's here!" Reiner shouted from the kitchen and you scrambled to grab your belongings from the desk and dash out of your bedroom. "Coming!" You yelled as you skidded into the kitchen.
In the doorway, stood Jean. He was leaning against the wall, dressed in khaki pants and a baggy brown t-shirt. He had a smirk on your face as you stood there awkwardly. "You two have fun... and be safe." Reiner winked to Jean as he pushed you towards the door.
"Jesus Reiner. It's just a festival." You clicked your tongue as Jean slung his arm around you and dragged you out of the house. "I hope you're hungry." Jean leaned down and kissed your forehead as you guys walked onto the street.
"The festival is big on desserts so of course I saved room." You giggled as you looked down at your feet to make sure you didn't trip over Jean's. "No need to be nervous. We've already kissed." Jean pulled you closer, making it hard for you to breath as your face was shoved into his shirt.
His cologne smelled smoky, but it wasn't overpowering. You stayed silent as you gawked at the lights that appeared. All around the busy street, there were dozens of stands that had flashing signs and the strings of lights sat overhead. "It's really pretty here." You smiled as you and Jean trotted towards the stands. "I'm in the mood for some Franzbrotchen." Jena pointed to stall that had a large picture of the pastry on it.
"I could go for it as well." You slipped your hand into Jean's and pulled him towards the stall. Jean stepped up to the man and confidently ordered. "Two Franzbrotchen please." The man nodded as Jean handed him his cash and received the pastries. Jean turned around, holding out one of the buns to you.
"Thank you." You grabbed it from his hand and took a small bite of the sweet bun. The taste of cinnamon hit you and the dough practically melted in your mouth. Jean chuckled as he watched you savor the treat. "Come on, let's sit down." Jean walked down the street and you followed him like a lost puppy.
He led you to a small bench that sat underneath a large tree. The bench faced the gate, where right beyond it was the city. The yellow lights from the houses shone as far as you could see. "You know, moving here was probably my mom's best decision." Jean talked through a mouthful of food.
"If I'm correct you moved from France?" You asked as you looked over at the boy. The lights from the festival lit up his face perfectly. You could see the small, brown hairs on his chin that looked like they had just started to grow in. His eyes were focused on the city as his hair blew back.
"Yeah. It first I hated it here, but it's alright now." He took another bite of the bun and finished it off. "Well Reiner and I grew up here. We haven't traveled, but I'm sure France is great." You crumbled up the wrapper your pastry had come in and held it in your hand. "I'll have to take you to France one day then." Jean winked as he leaned back in the bench, tilting his head back.
"Y/N?" He turned his head to the side, suddenly becoming serious. "Yes?" You felt your heart sink as you noticed his change in attitude. "You'll be my partner, right?" He kept a straight face as he waited for you answer. "Of course. I don't see why not." You smiled and nodded your head as Jean sat back up.
"Good. Now let's go play some games."
You may have lost all the games you played with Jean, but at least he used all of his wins to choose something out for you. By the end of the night, you were walking down the street with your arms full of various stuffed animals. "You sure you don't need help?" Jean raised his eyebrows as you struggled to keep all the stuffed animals in your hands.
"Yeah. I'm f-fine." You felt out of breath as you fumbled the stuffed animals. You felt a wave of exhaustion come over you. You suddenly felt dizzy and you tripped over your own feet. "Y/N!" Jean quickly caught you and the stuffed animals. He ripped the stuffed animals from your arms and pulled you up.
"Are you okay?" He asked worriedly as you held onto your pounding head. "Yeah. I'm fine." You shook your head as Jean grabbed onto your arm. "I'm carrying the stuffed animals home from now on. You just try to get home without passing out on me."
