• Completely shocked • Then confused • Then angry...very angry • "That thing better be gone by the time I come back." • Stormed out • When he came back you informed him you were keeping the baby • He stormed out again • You didn't see him for 3 weeks • The other Pogues updated you on how he was • Which wasn't good • JJ was drinking all day and fighting any person that looked at him wrong • He made the mistake of going home to get some clothes • His father had found out about the baby and beat him • Without thinking he ran to your house • You held him as he cried and cleaned up his cuts • "What did I do to deserve you?" • Once the adrenaline had worn off the two of you were left in awkward silence • "How are you feeling with, uh, everything?" • It was the first time you two talked about the baby • You told him he could be as involved as he wanted, but you were still keeping the baby • He broke down again • You held him again • "I won't make a good father (y/n). I don't even know what one looks like." • You told him that his childhood didn't define how he would be as a parent • That was enough for JJ to realize he couldn't leave you • And if not leaving you meant raising his child...then he would do his best • "I should never have stormed out, or said what I did. I was scared and it was stupid. But I'm here now. I'll do the best I can, and I'm not going anywhere. You're stuck with me." • You were wrapped in JJ's arms the whole night • Your shirt had lifted slightly in the night and when JJ woke up he could see a small bump forming underneath • He jumped out of bed...this was his reality check • JJ was absolutely terrified • You weren't teenagers anymore, but you were still young • Not to mention broke • He almost ran again, but then his eyes flicked from your face to your stomach and he got back in bed • JJ placed his hand on your bump and for a second felt at peace • Then he got an idea • "Um this is weird. I'm not really sure what to say, um hello I suppose." He relaxed a little. "Listen, I'm going to try my best. I promise. But that might not be enough. God I hope it is. Your mother is this amazing Angel and she'll be perfect, I have no doubt of that. I'm really going to do my best not to fuck it up though. Oh shit. I, uh, I mean shoot. Not a great start. But anyway goodnight." • That was the first of many nights JJ spent talking to your bump • After the first night JJ's anger subsided and he started to adapt • He couldn't shake his fears though • Stopped smoking weed altogether • JJ started drinking a lot less when he went to parties • He actually started going to less parties too • And in the beginning when you went to a few parties, sober of course, he didn't leave your side • And no one, but the other pogues, were allowed near you • He also stopped getting in fights less around you • But people talked and when you weren't with him he couldn't stop himself from punching a few assholes • JJ was very nervous when you went on the boat • He thought the movement would be too dangerous • You told him you'd be fine but that didn't stop him from holding onto you the whole boat ride • And don't even think about trying to stand on the boat without his arm around you • "The water looks a little rough today maybe we should boat another day. How does a nice relaxing day sitting sound?" • "Woah, woah, (Y/n). What did we say about standing on the boat. It rocks too much for you to stand on your own babe. Here I'll hold you. Think about the baby." • The always cool JJ Maybank was in a constant state of worry • JJ forbid Rafe and Topper to so much as look at you wrong and he said it so fierce, for once, they didn't test him • "If you so much look at her the wrong way I promise, I will end you. Don't test me." • He started working harder to earn some extra money • He tried not to worry about you but he really stressed about money • The two of you bought a little apartment with a nursery • He painted it and even built the crib • The crib caused a lot of swearing and a few splinters • JJ wanted a girl • Worried he'd mess up a boy like his father did with him • Still worried constantly about being good enough • Was excited to teach your kid how to surf • "Oh my god, a baby surfboard. (Y/n), we have to get this." • Read all the parenting books he could find • The other pogues made fun of him for his nose always being buried in a parenting book • "Shut up, all of you." • Freaked out when your kid kicked for the first time • Like jumped up and down, ran to tell the other pogues • He kept his hand on your bump the rest of the day • Even though he was terrified for the future the idea of parenthood had grown on him and he was excited • "I hope the baby looks like you, but wouldn't it be cool if they had my hair and eyes!" • JJ was too impatient to wait for the gender • You did a little gender reveal party with you and the other pogues • When you found out it was a girl you could see some tension leave his body • "A baby girl. Our baby girl." • Tears pricked at his eyes but he later claimed the room was dusty • As your pregnancy came to an end JJ, somehow, became even more protective and antsy • "I'll get that." • "Okay, now I'm really saying no to the boat." • "You better not lift a single thing." • "How are you feeling? Need anything?" • "Babe sit, I've got it. You rest." • His doubt skyrocketed the last few weeks of your pregnancy • But every time he thought he couldn't do it you reassured him he could • Every false alarm left JJ white as a sheet, sweating, and completely panicked • When you actually went into labor he was no different • A total mess • "Okay, nobody panic!" • "(Y/n) have you seen the hospital bag! I thought it was right here but it's gone! Oh wait here it is." • He held your hand the whole time • And peppered your face with kisses • "You're doing great baby. You're incredible." • You'd seen JJ stitch some cuts from fights up himself but the poor boy almost passed out, more than once • When your little girl was born JJ cried • This time he did not claim there was dust in the room • He was so nervous to hold her • "What if I drop her?" • You didn't give him a chance to go on before plopping her in his arms • "Hello baby girl. I'm your dad." • He hardly put her down the rest of the day • JJ was still terrified but he was determined to do his best for his little family • "You know in a few years from now maybe, well, maybe we could do this again."
