On This Fine Christmas Day

Children wake up in excitement;

It’s finally Christmas day!

They jump out of their beds, fuelled with the joy,

Ready to discover and run and play.

While on the other side of the world,

A million miles away,

Children are dying

On this fine Christmas day.

Presents are ripped open,

Cards are discarded,

Under the tree is all that matters,

Parents are happy, but bombarded.

While in another neighbourhood,

Not that far away,

A girl in glasses is being called retarded

On this fine Christmas day.

While you eat Christmas turkey,

And laugh, and act all jolly,

I’ll be next door, all alone,

Decking the halls with blood-stained holly.

On this fine Christmas day.
