Words Escape Me

Words escape me:

They fly from my lips

Before being released,

They soar past the clouds

Like swallows in spring.

Words escape me:

They lodge in my throat

Stubbornly stopping speech,

I splutter and cough

Then sink past their reach.

Words escape me:

They fly through the wind

Searching for other minds,

So their potential

Will be truly found.

Words escape me:

They flutter beyond

My reach, I grope for them,

A blind girl searching

For a pretty phrase.

Words escaped me:

And dashed to corners

And edges of the dark,

I am left alone

A girl with dreams to fly.
