Cordelia

It was coming to the end of November, meaning soon the trees would be naked and the castle grounds no longer blanketed with a palette of yellows, reds and browns. It had been about a month since mine and Mattheo's date and Christmas was practically around the corner. There were rumors speculating about Professor Slughorn's 'special club' reserved for selected students. His favorites more or less. Ron Weasley had started calling it the Slug Club which definitely caught on with the other students. Professor Slughorn had kept me behind one potions lesson to let me know that I was invited and that he looked forward to seeing me at his dinner party. When I got back to the common room I found out that Blaise, Enzo, Venus and Mattheo had all been invited too. We all came from quite respected families and we were all rather intelligent. But in all fairness, I think the true reason Mattheo was invited was because Slughorn was scared of the consequences if he wasn't, given who his father is.

The next evening was the dinner Party and we were all making our way through the corridors in our evening wear. Venus and I both decided to keep it simple. She wore a black silk dress with spaghetti straps that came down just before her knees. She looked elegant and beautiful. I wore a similar style of dress but the fabric was a deep emerald green. The boys all wore shirts and ties, looking incredibly smart. We arrived on time, with the other selected students filtering in. I took a seat next to Mattheo, Enzo on my other side with Venus next to him and Blaise next to her. Slughorn brought out a selection of foods and drink for us as a gentle murmur of conversation wafted through the air. The door opened again and in walked Harry Potter. He took a seat opposite Mattheo and the air went thick with tension. The two exchanged a glance. Harry's eyes were swimming in anger as he stared at him, knowing that the boy's father was the reason his parents were dead. Mattheo did nothing. Instead he smirked and took a sip of his drink. My hand found its way to his thigh, drawing circles with my thumb.

Slughorn took a seat, clearing his throat to rid the uncomfortable silence that had settled in the air. "Thank you everyone for coming" he announced with a nervous chuckle. "Please get stuck in, there's plenty of food". Everyone began filling their plates and eating. Conversation was to the minimum as we waited for Slughorn to start his questioning.
"So, Miss Hart, what is it that your parents do?" He asked Venus once we were all settled down with food on our plates.

"Oh, well my mother is a Healer and my father works in the ministry" she said.

"Very good" he replied, "and what is it that you would like to do once you leave Hogwarts?"

"Well if I'm honest, I haven't paid it much thought." Venus said with a slight laugh, "but I suppose I would like to be a Dragonologist "

"My my, a Dragonologist ? That's quite a job" Slughorn laughed. Venus sat there with a smile, not knowing how to respond. I smiled at her, Venus had always had a love for dragons. She had chosen to continue with studying Care for Magical Creatures this year and Hagrid had introduced her to some of the dragons he has. Weird and wonderful she likes to call them. "Mr Berkshire, what about you?" Slughorn adverted his attention to Enzo, who was sat about to eat a mouthful of pasta.
