Chapter 15

They had been hiding in the 24th ward for three days now, they didn't have any idea what they were going to do going forward. They thankfully did find a lot of empty rooms which probably were created by the ghouls that lived there and decided to make it their base.

"Hey, wake up it's getting late", he heard as Ken opened his eyes to see his lover's face. "I'm up, Good Morning Touka"
"Good morning, here's your coffee" she said as she passed him his cup
"Where did you find coffee in this place ?",
He asked clearly surprised
"I brought some when we came...", She said in a sad tone remembering the events from a few days ago which had emotionally taken a toll on them, Ken didn't want to be reminded of that or Touka to feel sad so he tried changing the topic,
"Where are those two love birds ?", Touka's face flushed as she didn't expect Hinami and Ayato to be together now, she saw Hinami as her little sister and Ayato as her stupid jerk of a brother so she was a little uncomfortable with them being together.
"They went for a walk, Ayato hasn't been able to accept uncle's death and Hinami is trying to cheer him up, which is nice I guess"
"Yeah, it is", Ken said getting up from their makeshift bed and hugging Touka. She doesn't get embarrassed or flustered like other times, she hugs him back without delay. "I need this ..., To keep going on", he said muttering the last part, "Me too", she replies.

They leave their room and go search for Ayato and Hinami and find them shortly. Ken had always had a rough relationship with Ayato, even when they were working together they were not very open to each other except when Touka yelled at them both in their base back when Ken refused to return to Anteiku. Ayato was sitting on a broken wall wrapped in a blanket and Hinami was holding him from behind, whispering things in his right ear but she reddened as she saw her older brother and sister smiling at her and she hid her face behind Ayato's back out of embarassment which earned a laugh from the couple. Ken jumped onto the wall which Ayato was sitting on and put an arm around his shoulder, "How are you feeling today buddy ?". Ayato smiled for the first time in the last few days, "I'm fine, believe me. I just need a few moments to myself, that's what I'm telling her but she doesn't listen", he said clearly talking about Hinami and Kaneki signals hinami to leave and jumps of himself, "Ayato, don't hesitate to come to us if you need anything",
"I know... Aniki" Ayato said the smile still present on his face. Ken's surprised at what Ayato said, Did he hear him correctly ?, did Ayato really call him that ?, His eyes become watery as he smiles back.

They give Ayato time to think and arrive back at their rooms, "The food is nearly finished, we need to get some more" Touka said looking at their luggage, it was supposed to last a few weeks but in the fight three days ago with the doves everyone sustained injuries, so the food was used up to heal the wounds. "You two take care of Ayato and the base, I'll be back in a few hours" Kaneki said picking up his mask and putting it in his pocket, Touka was a little hesitant to let him go alone after all that has happened. "I'll go with you Ken", touka said looking worried
"No I'll go alone, it will be easier"
"But-"
"I'll be back I promise, You don't have to worry"
She was worried, she didn't want to lose him now, she would end her life if he left her like that
"Okay come back soon", she said and he smiled and started leaving,"I love you"
His feet stopped where they were and he turned around,"I love you too", then he left.

Hinami smiled at her and Touka blushed,
"H-hey, where's Ayato Its more than enough alone time for him", Hinami started laughing, "You're laughing at me !!! You were snuggling with your Ayato~, my sweet innocent sis" hearing this hinami reddened like a tomato and it was touka's turn to laugh.

Kaneki was currently in the 19th ward searching for food, it turned night time so it was pretty quiet where he was with a occasional vehicle passing by every few minutes. He was searching for suicide victims but didn't find any he was not gonna take lives of some innocent civilians, he had already searched three whole wards so it was getting late, 'Touka is gonna be worried' he thought. Then he felt that two people were following him, he took a few glances at them they had suitcases, they were doves. It made sense he was walking alone on empty streets at night, they suspected him to be a ghoul and they weren't wrong.

'I got the food', Ken thought killing civilians was morally wrong but he was fine with killing doves. He kept on walking like he didn't notice them and they kept on following getting quicker with their steps until he could hear their feet right behind him, "Hey you, turn around with your hands behind your back !" one of them said and Ken complied as he did, he saw the dove aiming the gun at him and his partner was holding a quinque. "Who are you and where are you going so late at night ?" the second dove said
"Why does it matter to you ?"
"Don't try to be a smartass or I'll shoot"
"I'd like to see you try, bitch" ken said as his single kakugan flared and they were taken by surprise
"One-Eye ??!" the one with the gun wheezed out, the air left his lungs and the other simply tried to attack by opening his quinque but both of them were dead before they could blink as two tentacles pierced them in the chest, Ken put their bodies in the bag and went back.

It had been almost four hours and Touka was more than worried, she was starting to panic. Ayato was back now, "Hey, he's fine it takes time to find food. Don't worry", but she ignored him and was getting out of breath now, 'What if the doves find about him ?, What if he never comes back to you ?'. Ayato was getting frustrated now, he went to her and shook her by the shoulders, "Did you listen to me ?! I said he'll be back stupid Aneki"
"And what if he doesn't ?", Ayato is speechless when he hears her
"What the fuck, how could you even say that ? What's wrong with you ?"
She realises just what she said and she cringes, "I'm sorry, I'm just.... messed up"
"It's okay, we all are" Ayato says patting her back.

Ken finally returns with their food and opened the door which made a creaking noise, Hinami and Ayato see him and smile as he hands them the bags. "Go inside, she's really worried", Ayato said jokingly punching his chest. He opened the door to their room and she saw him, he smiled and tried to say something but she tackled him in a hug before he could and they fell on the floor, "W-where were you ?, you idiot !,Do you even know how scared I was ?!!!?", She lightly hit his chest as she got up straddling him and he saw tears in her eyes. He got up, wiped them away and hugged her, "I promised didn't I ?", He picked her up and they went to bed. "Hey Touka, I know you have been feeling down for the past few days because of you know..."
"So... What is it ?"
"You've been unlike yourself lately, I know you are sad but even if you are, you are my strong Touka. Is there a reason as to why you are getting emotional over small things", Ken said looking in her eyes
"N-no... I'm still the same, aren't I ?", Touka said and he knew that something was wrong
"Touka, You know you can tell me if there's anything wrong. We're family now, you were always there for me when I needed help, you saved me, you taught me not to burden the pain alone and you should know that I'm here to burden your pain like you did with me", he said caressing her cheek with longing in his eyes. 'Ken knows me too well, I can't hide it from him for too long'
"T-There is something... Ugh I can't"
"Please Touka, for me-no for us" she can't disagree now looking at his beautiful grey eyes,

"Ken, I'm pregnant....."
