Based off a headcanon I have about Dream and Technoblade trapped in the prison.

____

Dream stared into the brightly colored lava, that constantly flows down infront of him. It seeps through a drain at the bottom on the outside of the master cell.

His mind wanders as does his hand, hovering over the heat that radiates off of it. It warms his head in only seconds and yet he can't bring himself to pull his hand away. He loves it, he craves it. All the warmth he has been taken away from since being locked up.

Technoblade is there, yes, but what is he going to do? Ask him for cuddles? Ask to borrow his cape when he feels cold? Ask him to be pinned against the wall so can feel something again that isn't just feeling sorry for himself- no. He can't ask him any of that. He's not that type of person. That's not who he is.

When he feels the heat intensify on his finger tips, he finally draws back. He glances over his hand, as if he expected to see any signs of the lava even touching his skin. Then he realizes he would have felt. Or at least hopped he would.

"You didn't, incase you were wondering."

Techno speaks up from another side of the small box shaped room. He's slumped on the floor, knees bent and arms draped ontop. His head lifts up from his once craned neck and looks at Dream. He would have scolded himself for even letting himself keep that picture for more than a second, but his opinions have slightly changed the past few months. Circumstances have changed.

"You would done more than just remember where your hand was." Techno continues, watching over his new formed friend. Dream can only hum in response, agreeing with him.

Dream holds his own hand, and rubs his palm with his thumb. His eyes find their way back to the lava only centimeters infront of him. He can't recall when he moved closer, but he assumes he must have subconsciously when his mind was elsewhere.

"What's your obsession with the lava anyway? You've been here for months, right? It's not as fascinatin' anymore." Techno was curious after all. He usually could figure out anything, and Dream, was something he could never understand.

"It's warm." He kept his response short.
"The heat gets trapped in this room, it's warm everywhere."
"It's warmer closer up."

Dream couldn't tell him his actually reasoning. He still had some pride left and would rather not die of embarrassment. For as long as he's stuck in this said-to-be inescapable box, he will not tell Techno anything personal about himself.

"You're not thinkin' of jumpin' in.. right?"

Dream couldn't seem to respond this time. He could just say "no", "of course not", "why would I?", but that would be a lie. Why bother lying to someone who you're going to be stuck with for.. however long he's going to be here. And they've gotten just the tiniest bit closer since Techno first arrived. He made him laugh.

Technoblade couldn't help but notice it, either. Dream, the one who never stops talking about his house, doesn't say a word. He gets curious, but doesn't act apon it. Does he have the right to? They're friends, they help each other out when their beliefs stand on the same side, or it benefits each other, but that isn't close enough to ask something so personal.

He can only lay his head back against the wall and close his eyes, but not his ears. If he heard any movement from the other side of the room, then he will decidedly jump into action. Until then, he will only listen in.

Several moments pass, still no more words spoken. Dream gets uncomfortable. Sitting on tough, hard ground in a kneeling position still facing the lava. He rolls his neck and stretches, finally standing up. Instantly, Technoblade's ear twitches and he's suddenly aware and alert of his friend.

Dream stares back at the lava, analyzing it. As if it changed from mere seconds ago. He steps closer. While Techno, gets ready to stand.

Another step. Another movement.

Dream thinks it over. His mind doesn't change. He doesn't stop himself. He has the full capability to, yet he chooses not to.

Another step. Another reach.

Only hairs away now. The temperature rises around him and he can feel it leave an uncomfortable feeling on the surface of his skin. It's not enough. He needs it higher. He needs more warmth.

Technoblade can't let it slide anymore.

"Don't."

The sudden voice startles Dream, causing him to pause to give Techno just enough time to reach him. He grabs him from his shirt, gripping onto the fabric and pulling him back.

Dream lands in Techno's embrace. His back to his chest. His feet stepping on the others. He didn't mind. It was worth it. Techno can feel a lump in his throat as he collects his thoughts. Dream can hear himself panting, realizing what could have just happened.

Dream breaks. For months, he has kept everything inside. But now that he's not truly alone anymore, he can let loose. He can open the once screwed shut bottle and tell Techno every thought he has ever had, every insecurity he has ever felt.

Days have past since then. It was all it took for the two to grow closer. Even Techno has brought it apon himself to be rather protective of Dream during their imprisonment. When the Warden stops by to feed them their daily meals of dry, cold potatoes, Techno steps forward and takes it from him so Dream doesn't have to.

When Dreams' hand hurts from already have previously written pages and pages of only his thoughts, Techno writes them down for him.

And when Dream feels too weak to even move because of what his mind tells him, Techno helps him attend to his business and brings him over to his own corner.

They don't always talk about something so personal to one of them, sometimes it's just joking around because they both know what Dream would do without it. He would attempt again.

Because of their good behavior, occasionally the Warden would come back with slightly warmer potatoes than usual. Techno still insisted on letting Dream have his filling first. Techno could go days without eating and still have enough strength for battle. Dream, on the other hand, could not.

On the worse days, Techno would even share his cape, letting Dream curl up on his side and eat their meal together. Dream only had to sit next to him once and Techno to let him in closer for it to become normal. Now, he doesn't even have to ask.

Honestly, he doesn't mind have been tricked into coming here. He wanted to visit him, and he did. Just for a little longer than he planned. He missed his former best friend, but for now, Dream can fill in that role.
