Mia stirred awake at the feeling of a pair of eyes trained on her face, wiggling under the covers. The arms around her waist tightened their hold but she kept her eyes shut, smushing her cheek further into the pillow where she lay on her side. Letting out a long breath, she tried to keep a grin from overtaking her features. "You're being creepy," she accused, voice raspier than usual from sleep.
The man lying next to her scoffed, tugging her closer against his bare chest, "Most girls would call it romantic."
"Mmm," she hummed, "Then go bother one of them." When he huffed out a laugh and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, she couldn't hold back a smile any longer. Cracking her eyes open one at a time, her smile only widened at the sight of her boyfriend, hair disheveled from sleep and looking as sexy as ever. It really wasn't fair that he could look that good right after waking up, while she swore she looked like she just escaped from a psych ward. Tilting her chin, Mia placed a small peck to his pouting lips before settling back against the pillow.
A comfortable silence overtook them again as she tried to fall back asleep, his heavy gaze still making goosebumps cover her skin. It was only a few more minutes before his voice broke the quiet calmness of the early morning.
"Marry me," Jay whispered without even thinking, completely mesmerized by the peaceful look on his girlfriend's face. Mornings in bed together were rare, but with her mom out of town for the weekend, it allowed him to spend the night – their parents banned sleepovers once they started dating.
Her breath stuttered at his words, but she tried not to let it show, eyes slowly fluttering for the second time that morning. Mia took in his face for any sign of humor but found he was dead serious. Shaking her head slightly, she exhaled a laugh and rolled onto her back, "You're crazy."
"Am I?"
She ticked her eyes towards him, "Yes." When he didn't say anything in return, just continued to stare at her, she leaned up to rest on her elbows and peered down at him, "Jay, we're in high school."
"For, like, a month," Jay pointed out, sitting up on his forearm but staying on his side,, "I love you."
Mia let out a sigh, switching to one arm to mimic his pose and face him, "I love you, too." She lifted her other hand to touch the side of his face, fingers ghosting over the freckles on his cheek before threading through his hair. "Where is this coming from?"
