a/n: school is starting on 25 so updates will be slow (?) i'm not sure but don't expect fast updates like before when i posted a chapter every other day. that said, also forget everything about the grey's timeline. i know arizona doesn't show up until like season 5 in canon but this is a fanfic so... yeah. lol. just remember how the character act and stuff. i apologize in advance if the characters are ooc (out of character) in this fic; i've noticed i write characters with different attitudes from canon in my other fics. last, i won't write smut. i'm fifteen. that's the only explanation. that's all, enjoy!

this is def a merzona ff.

"And your name?" Derek Shepherd said to the first year resident. He looked at the girl in awe, as if the woman in light-blue scrubs were a sunset.

The resident cleared her throat. "Meredith," she paused, "Meredith Grey."

Derek nodded once, "Grey you say?" He stole a last glance at Meredith before turning away. "Good job today, Dr. Grey." he said while wearing a smile, something Dr. Grey couldn't see. "Since you worked hard today, I think I'll choose you to scrub in."

"Pardon?" Meredith takes a step forward, perplexed. She wanted to see the other doctor's face, hoping to get in on what he was thinking. Choose, scrub in, it echoed within her.

But Derek smirked and walked away to avoid any further contact. He knew Meredith was screaming inside despite the calm retort.

"Dr. Shepherd," Meredith said, like she was out of breath, "Thank you, Dr. Shepherd."

Derek inferred the panic in her voice, and it pleased him to no end. He made her nervous. It's a start. He thought.

And the Meredith was left to her own heartbeat racing, something in her was on fire. The first resident to scrub-in, the first first-year resident to scrub-in in a surgery. It was definitely a big deal. And it was a bigger deal when she thought about Yang. How she went on to go hunting with attendings to get a chance to scrub-in.

She breathed out.

"No way," a mutter escaped. She bruised her lip. I'll scrub in. That's right! Screw you, Yang.

"I told you we didn't need to be hasty." Meredith grinned turned around to walk away. That's when she saw Cristina Yang running to her.

Taken aback, Dr. Grey stops on her feet. She met Yang's tired eyes.

"Dr. Yang, hello," Meredith said.

Dr. Yang lent her a brow, "What's with that face?" she said. Then, Yang looked over to Derek who was walking while bopping his head occasionally. She looked back to the blond with the biggest of eyes. "Did you just..." she said in curious tone but doubting unibrow. "Seduce him into scrubbing you in?"

"Pfft, no!" Meredith said abrupt. Frankly, she did not know she had charmed him. She looked to the hallway Derek was in, "That man was rude all day, well- er... maybe except just now."

 Meredith met Yang's eyes.

"You seduced him into letting you scrub in," Yang held a face, disgusted, impressed, and pleased, all at the same time.

"No!" Meredith retorted, Yang could burst to sound of her squeak.

Yang grinned now, "Yeah right, if I check that board and your name is in it, I will not stop laughing."

Meredith huffed out at the misunderstanding. It irked her too that Yang was acting like her best friend now, contrasting to the unwelcoming stare she gave her earlier in the locker room. She glared at a grinning-Doctor-Yang, and shook her head disapprovingly.
