Meredith found a spot in the gallery despite her colleagues crowding there. She squeezed herself into the seat beside George and Izzie.
"Hey," Izzie says, offering her popcorn. Meredith politely declined. George then said, "I hope she gets shit done."
Indifferent, Meredith looks over him, "Oh, she'll get shit done."
Izzie mouths a scoop of popcorn and hush the two, "Shh! It's about to start."
Meredith rolls her eyes and looks around for a certain someone. She bit her lip when she realized someone so busy as an apartment head had other things than watch a regular surgery.
When nobody with a dimpled-smile appeared before Meredith, she sighed and focused on Cristina instead. It was going well, she thought.
"Are you going to catch Grey do the first years' first surgery or nah?" a nurse jumped beside the other. The other nurse glowered, "I'd rather not. Isn't she just so... annoying?"
Arizona heard every word from the counter. She looks over to the bunch and listens.
"Hey! I heard she passed the opportunity to Dr. Yang." a third nurse emerged behind them.
The second nurse twitched a smile, "Oho, imagine being such a wuss to give that chance away,"
And the three nurses laugh.
Knitted brows, arched lips, Dr. Arizona Robbins approached her nurses.
The three were occupied in their own that they did not even notice the blond had walked up to them. Not until she spoke.
"Hey," she finally smiled. "Can I get in on that convo just now?"
Puzzled, the nurses spare each other glances, Dr. Robbins only ever smile and waved them every lunch break. So what was different today?
The first nurse cleared his throat, "It's about the interns, Dr. Robbins." He smiled politely. "I don't think you'll be interested in lots like them-"
"Oh but I am now." Robbins held a smile so bright, it could pass as fake. And what's not to say it wasn't. Her face only twitched into smiles like this when she was nerved, "Go on. I want to hear."
Gullible, the second, trash-talking nurse started, "Dr. Grey gave away her chance to do the first surgery, you know that right?" she laughed. "Anyway, we think she's-"
"A wuss." Dr. Robbins finishes. She left the three nurses swallowing their own saliva. "I heard," she paused to look at the second nurse. "From you especially."
"I- I'm sorry," she blurts out.
Robbins crossed her arms in front of them.
"Do you know how hard it is to get here? How hard it is to summon guts just to finish med school? You know right?" for the entirety of a split second, she graced them with a smile. A smile out of courtesy. Only for it to disappear. She continued calm, "So tell me why you have the audacity to trashtalk an intern like that?"
"I'm sorry!" she squeaks.
In a flash, she ran down the hallway. And the two other nurses followed, sweating.
Dr. Robbins was left her own frustrations. Biting her lip, she wanted to know more about the gossip. She knew nurses liked to speak, but she never knew it was the shit-talking type of talk.
And she pondered.
Yesterday, where was she going in such a hurry? Dr. Shepherd, she asked me about him... so maybe she went to him just to bail out?
Arizona's head was spinning at the nonsense. She would rather work on tiny human cases than be involved with hospital gossip.
Despite the internal conflict, a question still lingered within her.
What else did they say about Grey?
"Robbins!" a voice interrupted her.
Robbins turns around, "Dr. Montgomery,"
The blond earned a smile from Dr. Montgomery. She was surprised by the sudden visit.
"Oh come on, don't be so formal, Arizona." she remarks.
Robbins only rose her brow as response.
Montgomery grabs her arm to force into walking. "Meredith Grey is the Ellis Grey's blood-daughter. So it would only be make sense that she's the talk of the town right now."
Robbins shot a look towards the other doctor as they walked hand in hand, "Did you hear that commotion just now?"
Montgomery nodded amused. "Uhuh, and let me say. I have never witnessed you so nerved."
Arizona sighed.
"Well, she didn't pick who her mom should be so I don't see the point in-"
"Trashtalking?" Montgomery finished her sentence, smiling. Arizona nodded, "Uhuh."
"Wait, Addie, where are we going?" finally, Arizona asked the real questions. Addison hugged the blond's arm tighter just to make sure the blond couldn't pull away and said, "Off to see the interns' first surgery."
"Oh,"
"All first years want to see what a surgery looks like so I'm sure Grey will be there," Addison smirks. She caught that. Arizona caught that knowing smirk Addison pulled just now, and she was sure of the thoughts that occupied the red-head.
They have been friends for 2 years now, of course she knew.
"I can't date an intern, Addie." she replies.
"Can't and won't are very different things." Addison says, "So are you hinting that you want to date an intern or what? I never knew you liked youngsters,"
It was a joke.
But Arizona rolled her eyes still.
