Part 9

"Just do it!"

"No." I said stubbornly.

"Come on," Sydney argued. "Just for fun."

"No! I won't do it." I crossed my arms over my chest and continued to shake my head.

"Why not?"

"Because, I knew you would do this to me. That's except why I didn't want to come with you." I argued.

"It's not like I'm making you buy it. Just try it on." Sydney continued to shove the midnight blue dress at me as I continued to push it away.

From the moment she asked me to go dress shopping with her, I knew something was up. She came up to me the Friday before the dance and practically begged me to go dress shopping with her. Even though I found it strange that Sydney waited until the last minute to get a dress for Homecoming, which was tomorrow, I still went with her.

Now I stood in the middle of Dillard's with her sticking a dress in my face. I knew this was going to happen. No matter how many times I told her that I wasn't going to go to homecoming anymore she still keeps trying. She resorted to bribery (paying for my dress and ticket), blackmail (which was a total waste because she has nothing on me), and guilt tripping (that almost worked but I stayed strong). Now she is at her last attempt: Make me jealous.

"No. There is no point in me trying on the dress if I'm not going to the dance." I told her. "Why don't you try it on?"

"Because, this isn't my color." She said simply.

"Liar." I said. "You love wearing blue."

"Well, I still don't want a blue dress." She said quickly. "Will you just try it on? Quit being so stubborn."

"I'm not being stubborn. I just don't want to wear it."

"It's not like it'll hurt you, Riley." She said as she continued to put the dress around my arm.

"I just don't see the point." I shook the dress off and Sydney took it back in her hands before it hit the floor.

"Can't two friends just try on dresses together? Does there have to be a point?" She asked.

For the first time in weeks I actually missed Arianna. She was always useful for these moments where I didn't want to do something. If she were here she would take the dress from Sydney and try it on herself so I wouldn't have to deal with Sydney an her crazy plans. Arianna usually knew when she was crossing my line; which made her betrayal all the more hard on me.

So, with a sigh I gave Sydney one last hard look before giving in. I grabbed the dress from her and turned to walk to the dressing rooms. Just before I entered the room, I saw a smirk spread across Sydney's face; she and I both knew she won.

I opened up the wooden door of the changing room and shut it behind me. I placed my dress on the hook and began stripping myself down to my bra and undies. Once I was half naked I slipped the strapless blue dress from the hanger and put it on.

I could fell the dress hugging my body in all the right places. With one look in the mirror, it confirmed it. This dress was perfect. It's dark blue features really worked well against my cream skin. The length was perfect; little above my knees. All in all, if I were going to Homecoming, I'd be wearing this.

A soft knock came from behind me, followed by Sydney saying, "Are you done yet?"

"Yes." I answered.
