It was an old omega. Santon. He had a disability that kept him to his bed, therefore, he wasn't at the party last night and was here, resting. According to another omega at the hills, a few wolves came knocking down on their doors and checked up our houses. They inserted themselves in the houses of those omegas that were away, including Mom's and my Uncle's. They were searching for something.

I felt foolish then surprised.

The Alpha had different things in his mind. The party was just a distraction to lure the omegas and other wolves out of their cribs so a search could take place without our knowledge.

He certainly knew.

"I should've known," Mom shook her head. "Parties aren't for us, they never were. This was a trap."

I pulled the coffee towards my lips and blew out a breath to cool it down. There were words confined deep inside my throat. I couldn't say them out loud nor I had the courage to. When I came here, I expected something entirely different but it wasn't.

"D—did they find anything?" I asked, breaking my silence that had gone for too long. I had to choose, immediately, on whose side I was and wasn't.

My elder had died, murdered by one of the Alpha's pack men. I was furious and enraged.

"No," she replied, bending done on one knee and picking up a broken vase that was a result of the break-in. "Hawk had tucked away the left samples of the poison. It isn't anywhere around here. I suppose that is what they were looking for?" Her brow quirked at me as she inquired, wanting to know the information I had gotten from the house.

"Brian is not looking good. He isn't moving nor talking. There are a few others. The Alpha claims it's a sickness and he has sent all those that have been affected away, probably into solitary until they heal." My finger traced around the edges of the cup as I explained to Mom.

She nodded and then gave me a small smile. The skin under her eyes was healing from the tears she had shed earlier. "Well, that's some good news. If the Beta is down then we surely can take everyone else." She folded her arms across her chest and paced around the fireplace.

I flunked back on the couch and asked, "Do you have that much of—pynine?" There were a thousand wolves living in the town and they grew more and more every day. It was going to be impossible for a small number of omegas to poison them all.

"We are working on it. The doses we have in our hand are stronger than any other we have made and those will be only given to the ones in higher authority." Her face tensed.

I clutched the armrests of the couch and glanced outside to catch a glimpse of nature and the wild forest. Stanton's body was burned immediately after his funeral. The omegas here were mourning his death, therefore the absolute silence in the hills.

They were going to give it a day before getting back on the mission—to poison everyone else.

On the other hand, I couldn't understand what I was feeling about everything that had happened. My mind was working overtime, causing a headache and the coffee I was supposed to take had gone cold.

Mom didn't question about last night, yet.

After a minute of admiring nature, I turned my head away from the window and found her cleaning up the mess the wolves had left.

"It's not going to be long, Mom." I whispered.

"For what?" She glanced over her shoulders and asked.

"For him to find out about everything. He's already getting a hint and from what I could tell from earlier, he's getting closer." I narrowed my eyes. "I don't want to lose you."
