I can't believe I'm ranting yet again on GameToons' content. It just feels like for every time they upload or try something new on this channel, they take a step in the wrong direction.
Don't be fooled by the points I'm about to address, I still like GameToons and their separate channels, but nowhere near as close as before. Among Us Adventures, before the name change, used to be a nice little distraction from our weekly scheduled uploads.
It provided us with Among Us mods from an actual gameplay perspective, entirely unscripted for the most part (I think...), but still had all your favourite AUL characters that were having a blast and heaps amount of fun that even changed up every now and then. Plus, there were funny little machinimas that panned out like actual episodes, which still felt like AUL at the end of the day, even if it's low budget.
So, you're probably wondering what the hell happened, if you've been living under a rock for the past 6 or so months. Well, here's the video that's pretty much changed the future for this channel:
Besides giving a famous YTer some love and adoration for an entire week, I believe that this is the main source of GTG's content spiralling downhill, and I'll explain my reasons below, starting with:
Completely Different Mission
Like any regular Among Us game, the main objective to win as the Crewmates is to get rid of the Impostor by using deduction and murdery investigatory type skills to vote them out, or by finishing every single task.
The older mods changed up how the Impostor can cause havoc around the map, but the objective remained the same, regardless.
However, take away the former half of that sentence and you're left with the modern, more recent mods introduced on this channel.
It's no longer about finding out who the Impostor is; It's about defeating this weird ass creature/thing and the only way to do it is the latter. The video doesn't exactly show this, but it's an inspiration, let's say.
The powers that the "Impostor" possesses are quite similar for each mod, mind you. A lot of them have multiple phases, a projectile that you have to dodge directly, objects that you have to avoid falling from the sky/move in various directions across the screen and a teleport to a completely different environment to dodge shit.
The kill and report button aren't used because you quite literally know who they are since they never transform into a bean, and it's to pad out the video length to around 10 minutes. At least, the older mods had several games in a video from different people's perspective.
And to sum up, as Player once said, this doesn't even feel like Among Us at this point.
Character Variety
The one benefit this channel has is reintroducing forgotten or rare characters to play alongside some of the regular, more popular characters in the series. Y'know, mix in B-Day and Gnome alongside new and completely original characters? That's awesome, they get more love and some crackships occur, so that's nice.
Why do I have an issue with this then? Well, it boils down to more or less the same characters being used over and over again in many of the recent mods being uploaded.
There are at least 9 common characters that appear consistently in each video, that I can think of; Mr. Egg, Mother, Gnome, B-Day, Dum, Hunter, PoopyFarts, Baggy and Wizard and maybe Captain, although that can vary because Ryan voices a shit ton of characters. It's not GTG, unless at least 5 of these show up for an episode.
